Happy May <<First Name>>,
What a fabulous Easter break that was! I hope you all found time to indulge in some Easter treats in great company. We most certainly did! Dan and I travelled to Canberra to spend some time with family and of course, we couldn't show up empty-handed. We took some of our delicious macarons and a white chocolate raspberry mud cake (which happens to be my sister-in-law's favourite) to enjoy over the weekend. Needless to say, they were a huge hit – even more so when accompanied with Easter eggs!
April was a busy month for us! With all hands on deck, we delivered 22 stunning wedding cakes to delighted couples and May is looking to be even more jam-packed! To say we are honoured to be part of so many couples’ special days is an understatement.
And whilst we are turning our attention to the month ahead, I'm thrilled (yet slightly apprehensive) to be planning my upcoming birthday party, where I'll be celebrating a rather large and round-numbered age this year. But the thing I'm looking forward to most is my birthday cake! I have two incredible friends who are famous, or should I say - infamous, for making some rather unique "nailed it" style birthday cakes. My last one was an epic “AWW DUCK” cake, and this time, I requested a moving dinosaur. I’m on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what they have in store for me!
With the Winter months fast approaching, I want to take a brief moment to give the underrated Winter wedding season the recognition it deserves. With the right venue, décor and lighting, a winter wedding can be a cosy, intimate and truly magical affair. The opportunities for creative themes, unique touches and Winter themed menus featuring your favourite comfort foods are endless. Plus, popular vendors are more likely to have availability, event calendars are less hectic for your guests and lighting tends to be absolutely dreamy for photos. And let’s not forget about the added bonus (and my personal favourite perk) of overseas honeymoon destinations having perfect conditions during an Australian Winter for a balmy and romantic escape.

A PIECE OF CAKE!
HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT SIZE WEDDING CAKE WITH EASE
|
|
We understand that choosing the perfect size wedding cake can be a daunting task for any couple. You want to ensure that there is enough cake to go around, with all guests receiving a generous serving without being left with an excessive amount that will have your freezer filled until your 3-year wedding anniversary comes around. Calculating the correct size cake is a delicate balancing act, but with a few simple considerations and tips, calculating the right size cake for your big day can be a piece of cake.
Before deciding on the size cake you will need for your big day, it's important to consider how it will be served. Will it be served as dessert or alongside coffee and tea as an extra course? In recent years we have seen a shift towards couples choosing to skip the additional expense of serving a separate dessert as well as cake and instead, opting for a truly spectacular and decadent cake served as the main affair. If you choose to make the cake the star of the show, venues will often serve the cake with berries and cream (but be sure to confirm this with your venue). Keep in mind, if the cake is plated individually, it is more likely that your guests will eat more of it than if the cake is served from a share plate where everyone helps themselves. With the average cake tier being around 15cm (or 6" tall), we recommend coffee-sized portions even when serving for dessert, to avoid any wastage. That is unless your family could be considered cake enthusiasts and in which case, go all out with full dessert-sized pieces!
Whilst on the topic of plating cake, it's crucial to delegate an experienced cake cutter the all-important task. While venue staff tend to be experienced in cake cutting and will be likely to minimise waste, your Great Aunt with champagne in hand and experience only cutting children’s birthday cakes in triangle-shaped pieces, may not be the best choice. (PSSST- wedding cake should never be cut into triangle-shaped pieces).
If you intend on having a dessert bar, keep in mind that not everyone will opt for cake (crazy, I know!). As a general rule of thumb, you’ll only need enough cake for around ½ or ¾ of your guests. Some couples choose to keep the top tier of the cake to enjoy on their first wedding anniversary, while others choose to provide additional cakes for each family group to take home or even enough cake for every guest to take a small portion home each.
With our tips and considerations front of mind, we have every confidence that together we can create the perfect sized (and style of) cake for your wedding day. Get in touch with us and we can begin creating your dream cake together!
