Dear Fellow Mountain Lovers,

Last weekend we were honored to join SSU Center for Environmental Inquiry (CEI) at Osborn Fairfield Preserve for a hike and talk about the geology of Sonoma Mountain, specifically the geology of certain landforms in the preserve itself. A big thank you to CEI and Nicole Myers, our guide, geologist, and lecturer in the Department of Geology at Sonoma State University. She really helped us see and understand the ever-moving and changing landscapes of our environment. Check our Facebook and Instagram accounts for more pictures! Remember to keep an eye on the Calendar at CEI, as outings always fill up quickly. In December they are hosting a Photography for all Abilities and a Mushroom Blitz!

On September 24th, Jack London State Park is celebrating its annual gala "Once Upon a Time," followed the next day by Community Day, which is a free day of events for the whole family (more info below). In the meantime, during this heatwave, Jack London State Historic Park is a great place for a cool morning hike, and they offer other community activities. You can check them all out here.

If you can't find an event that fits your schedule, or you just prefer to spend time with the mountain in solitude, Sonoma Mountain has so much to offer. Check out our page on the protected lands on Sonoma County, which includes various access points and trailheads. We are so lucky to have this treasure of Sonoma Mountain.

Nancy Evers Kirwan, the Secretary of the Board, grew up running free on the slopes of Sonoma Mountain. In our most recent SMP interview, Nancy shares what the mountain has meant to her and how she wants to pay it forward, to the mountain and to the community. One thing Nancy does is manage SMP's table at the Glen Ellen Village Fair, for which we do need volunteers who are knowledgeable about Sonoma Mountain. Let us know if you can help!

We look forward to seeing you out on the Mountain,
Your Friends at SMP

Come see us at the Glen Ellen Village Fair! This well-loved traditional street fair will close down Arnold Drive between Warm Springs Road and London Ranch Road for the day. Article from Kenwood Press on this Year's event!

"Sonoma Mountain was always my escape valve. My contact with the natural world. My place to dream and imagine. Climb trees, run in the field, ride up over the mountain. It made me who I am. It gave me independence."
~ Nancy Evers Kirwan, SMP Board Secretary
