RECENT NEWS

Alliance for Community Trees Mentor Exchange at the Morton Arboretum
In case you thought we were in this collaborative conservation business alone, you are pleasantly mistaken! Metro DNA is cultivating relationships with several other metropolitan greenspace alliances across the US, including Portland’s Intertwine Alliance, Seattle’s Emerald Alliance, Amigos de los Rios in Los Angeles, and a number of partners in Chicago.

On a recent trip to Chicago, Alliance Director, Dana Coelho kicked off an Alliance for Community Trees mentor exchange with the Morton Arboretum, which is a long-time Chicago Wilderness partner and host of the Chicago Region Trees Initiative. Metro DNA partner, The Park People, is also an ACT member and part of this national network of environmental stewardship organizations focused on urban forestry and urban ecology.

Dana will be back later this summer to spend time exchanging lessons learned, gathering ideas that will help us complete and implement the Regional Vision for People + Nature, and connecting with partners working on similar initiatives such as with The Nature Conservancy and Elevated Chicago, which is part of the national network of SPARCC Cities alongside Denver

The Morton Arboretum’s Nature Connects exhibit features sculptures built of thousands of LEGO blocks, highlighting the diverse “building blocks” of nature and their interconnections.
