North West Norfolk News
by James Wild MP

Everyone relies on the NHS being there when we or our families need it. In recent days talking to Norfolk’s Public Health Director, the Chief Executive of QEH, and others, I was warned that Covid-19 infection rates across the county could be over 150 per 100,000 in weeks and without further action local NHS services could not cope. I also reflected carefully on the views of constituents.  I am very conscious of the incredible sacrifices people and businesses across North West Norfolk have made to control this virus.

In the face of the warnings about the NHS, I reluctantly voted for the new controls on the basis they are time-limited. We now need to focus on getting through this period together and on reducing the infection rate. Norfolk enters these controls from a lower tier – by following these rules we can all play our part so that after this phase we return to it.

On Sunday, the nation will once again unite to remember and honour those in our Armed Forces who sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.  Due to restrictions we cannot gather in usual numbers but the service in King’s Lynn will be streamed on the Borough Council’s Facebook page and available on YouTube afterwards.

Finally, today is the closing date for my Christmas Card competition so please get any final entries in the post or emailed to me!

Please do get in touch if I can be of assistance.

Best wishes,

James

Support the Poppy Appeal and our Armed Forces

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, many volunteers have been unable to help with this year's Poppy Appeal and - like so many things - the Royal British Legion has had to adapt and create new ways for people to get a poppy. They are asking the public to support them like never before, because every poppy counts.

Newly improved, stronger voice for farmers in Agriculture Bill

The government have announced plans to extend the Trade and Agriculture Commission (TAC) and place it on a full statutory footing, giving farmers a stronger voice in UK trade policy.

This is an important and welcome step for British farmers who are concerned about future trade deals to increase parliamentary scrutiny without the damaging impacts of previous amendments that Parliament rejected.
