When I read this quote last week it resonated so deeply in my heart. We have a choice on what we do with this time and how we view it. I know this is a challenging time and lots of people are anxious about this illness – and the impact of mass hysteria and fear-based thinking. It has been hard for me to navigate the chaotic energy of the mass consciousness so I have been taking time to process some emotions that have been triggered in my own healing ~ so I am right there with you.  

But we have an opportunity right now. We have the choice to shift our awareness from being in a state of fear, restriction and chaos to this being a time to heal and to go within. To slow down, deeply nourish our bodies, minds and souls, to connect with ourselves and with what is really important. To give ourselves space to breathe into the unknown and trust. 

It is ok if you are feeling waves of emotions that you haven't felt before, that you feel uncomfortable, if there are days that are harder than others to navigate when you don't know what to do with yourself. 

But know this.

Self-care isn't cancelled. 

Epsom salt baths aren't cancelled. 

Reading that book you've been wanting to start with a warm mug of herbal tea isn't cancelled. 

Playing board games and laughing to release stress isn't cancelled. 

Nourishing your body with lots of healthy foods isn't cancelled. 

Journaling about the emotions you are experiencing isn't cancelled. 

Kitchen dance parties are definitely not cancelled. 

Finally getting around to de-cluttering your closet, that junk drawer or your mind isn't cancelled. 

Taking a walk outside and deeply breathing in the wild air isn't cancelled. 

Be still and hold yourself in love.
Because where there is love there cannot be fear. 

Caring For Yourself During Quarantine

Here are some ideas of how you can take care of yourself during this time of quarantine or as I am calling it "self-retreat". 


Breathe In Breathe Out
Any time you feel stressed, bring your attention back to your breath. The breath is a built-in mindfulness tool. Bringing your awareness to your breath as your chest and stomach slowly rises and falls instantly brings you in the present. Besides simply bringing your attention to your breath throughout the day, you can also practice making your exhale very long, and as you breathe out, imagine you’re releasing tension and fear. Another reason to practice breathing is to keep your lungs strong and resilient. All day long we fall into the habit of shallow breathing. Imagine as you inhale that you’re filling up your tummy all the way into your hips, feeling your hips expand on each inhale. 

Exercise
Exercise tones all systems of the body, including the respiratory tract and the immune system. Just don’t overdo it - exercise in a way that builds and gives you energy, not depletes you. I have some free home work outs! Reach out and let me know if you are interested. 

Avoid Sugar & Eat Nutrient Dense Foods
Sugar can increase inflammation and suppress immune function. Get extra doses of greens in warm comforting side dishes and soups. Nom nom nom nom. 

Sleep!
Nothing boosts the immune system like a good night’s sleep. Catch up on your Zzz's and let this be a time of rest. Take naps or go to bed early whatever your body is asking for. 

Keep Playing, Laughing and Connecting 
Play and laughter reminds us how to be lighthearted. Laughter is a fantastic immune system booster as well! Ha ha ha hee hee hee. Watch funny TV shows, movies or bloopers and play fun and silly board games! Even in the midst of hoarding and hysteria, we must take time to play and to connect with our loved ones and the natural world. It grounds us. It nourishes and supports our hearts. It shifts our perspective. Even if we can’t touch, we can still be connected. 

Meditate
Meditation is a vital tool we can all use everyday especially during these chaotic times. It opens up space in our consciousness which helps us to not be run by our monkey minds and over-thinking. We can shift our negative, fear-based thinking to thoughts of health, wellbeing, strong immunity, balance, centeredness and groundedness. Meditation is a reset button for our nervous system. And it helps us reconnect with our Higher Selves to help us remember we are love, light, powerful, resilient and connected to All That Is. It’s the antidote to hysteria.

  • Epsom salt baths with candles, relaxing music and incense  
  • Make a FaceTime date with loved ones
  • Break out the crayons and coloring books!
  • Learn a new crafting activity
  • Get outside for fresh air and Vitamin D
  • Board games and puzzles
  • Watch funny movies and bloopers (one of my favorites) 
  • Read a book you have been wanting to start
  • Cook a new recipe 
  • Clean out your inbox, spice drawer, closet, garage, junk drawer, office papers, bathroom toiletries 
  • Drink herbal tea
  • Lots of dance parties!
  • Listen to uplifting podcasts
  • Gratitude journaling
  • If uncomfortable emotions come up, acknowledge them, thank them, breathe into it and let it go 
  • Work with crystals 
  • Try Kirtan chanting
  • Work with oracle cards
  • Paint
  • Deep condition your hair, paint your nails and enjoy a nourishing face mask 
  • Deep clean an area of your home you have been putting off 
  • Open the windows and let the fresh air in and sage your home to transmute old, stale negative energy into positive energy 
  • Work with positive affirmations 
  • Yoga and stretching

Healing Affirmations

Repeat the mantra that resonates with you throughout the day with eyes closed breathing deeply. Great to start your morning or to balance and ground before going to sleep. 

I am able to let go of fear and trust that I am safe and secure.
