"Spring: A Lovely Reminder of How Beautiful Change Can Be."

Spring has sprung! Many of us are finally emerging from our winter hibernation to find the world energizing, fresh and alive creating a flutter of inspiration and expansion within us. Maybe you find yourself wanting to create new habits or start a new project. Spring is about nourishing the seeds of those big plans and dreams we planted at the beginning of the year as they continue to grow and come to fruition.

Before we start tending to these seedlings, it’s important to make sure we are starting from a point of clarity and balance with a solid foundation to build this new energy upon in our lives. Working with our chakra system can do just that and I have been passionately studying the chakras in depth and wanted to share this wisdom to empower you to take control of your own well-being so that you have the health and energy to embrace this new season!

This issue allows you to dip your toe into the deep and expansive pool of chakra healing by getting a feel for the role each chakra plays in our lives while giving you a few tools to help you begin to connect and balance these energy centers on your own!

What is the chakra system?

In Sanskrit, a chakra is defined as a “wheel of light”. It is a multidimensional spinning energy vortex and subtle energy center. Think of it as a metaphysical organ of the body or an organ of our energetic field that manages our energy. There are 7 main chakras according to the Hindu tradition and they are located along the mid-line of the body from the base of the tailbone up to the crown of the head, each measuring about 3-4 inches in diameter. Each chakra is associated with a different color and frequency of light, together creating a “Rainbow Road” running through the center of your being. That’s right you literally have a rainbow inside of you! These mini-shaped tornadoes of light not only absorb and transmit energy from the outside world into and out of our inner world but they also convert physical energy into subtle energy and vice versa. They even influence how we interact with our external surroundings and other people.

Each chakra governs a different physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspect of our being and together they help to keep us balanced, healthy and vital. Our chakras are in charge of everything from our mental processes, willpower, intuition, emotions and feelings of safety and security to our creativity, sexuality, self-esteem, communication and our ability to give and receive love.

The chakra system forms a foundation of wholeness between our mind, body and spirit and is a powerful teacher and tool for our own personal growth. As Anodea Judith describes them in her book Wheels of Life, “chakras are organizing centers for the reception, assimilation, and transmission of life energies…a point of intersection where our mind and body meet”. Working with the chakra system initiates the healing and releasing of old, habitual and deeply-ingrained behavioral patterns and false beliefs we hold about ourselves and the world around us that we have carried most of our lives deep within these energy vortexes.

In following issues I will cover each chakra individually to guide you deeper into the experience and exploration of each one by showing you how imbalances in these energy centers can manifest in our lives while also giving you tools to deepen your relationship with and balance each chakra.

Below you will find a visual of the chakra locations in the body as well as the color and sense associations and the primary functions of each chakra.

Root: I am centered & grounded. I am safe & secure. I am enough.

Sacral: I embrace life with passion, pleasure & abundant joy.

Solar Plexus: I am open to the fullness of my power. I am in harmony with all I see.

Heart: I deeply & completely love & accept myself. I forgive myself.

Throat: I express myself with clarity & confidence. I express my gratitude towards life.

Brow: I am connected to the divine source of the universe. I honor & follow my intuition.

Crown: I am infinite & boundless. I am divinely guided & inspired.

Love Yourself First
Your self-love ritual this month is to use a crystal to help you connect with and balance a chakra center by sending it nourishing healing vibrations. You can choose a chakra based on where you hold stress in your body and the chakra associated with that area or choose an aspect of your life you need support with and choose a chakra based on its primary functions.
  • Select a crystal that is associated with your chosen chakra from the lists above.
  • Clear and cleanse the stone by placing it in the moon beams overnight, letting it soak in sunlight for several minutes or run the stone through the smoke of Sage, Sweetgrass or Cedar for 2-3 minutes.
  • Find a quiet place you will not be disturbed and lay down on your back with a snugly blanket.
  • With curiosity, notice how you feel at this moment. How does your body feel? Where are you holding tension? What is your emotional and mental state?
  • Create an intention for this self-healing and hold it loosely in the back of your mind.
  • Begin to take slow deep belly breaths. Each exhale releasing & letting go with each inhale replenishing and cleansing. Continue for several minutes.
  • When you feel ready, place your crystal at the mid-line of the body where the chakra you have chosen is located.
  • Continue to bring your awareness to your breath and let yourself simply BE.
  • Notice any shifts within. Images, sensations or feelings may arise. Breathe into them and let them move and flow through your being.
  • Let your intuition guide you when the healing feels complete, usually about 15-20 minutes is wonderful.
  • Begin deep belly breathing again and wiggle your fingers and toes as you come back to the present moment.
  • Notice how you feel differently mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually compared to before you started the healing. Journal about any changes.
  • Cleanse your crystal before and after working with it.
  • Continue daily for as long as you feel drawn to then explore the same process with another crystal and chakra.
  • Express gratitude for making an appointment with yourself for healing, self-care & relaxation. Drink plenty of water and allow quiet "me" time to integrate.

Words of Inspiration

The following is a transformative channeled message from the guides of energy healer Barbara Brennan found in her book series Seeds of the Spirit 2007.

"You as a human being are a vast symphony: cells, organs, muscles, your brain. Is your body singing? Feel your heartbeat's percussion in your body. The percussion of the heartbeat runs the body pulses. Consider your heartbeat to be the drum of your internal orchestra. Feel the pleasure in every heartbeat. What runs the heart? Love. The basic frequency that sets the tone of the body is love. "
                                                                                          ~ Barbara Ann Brennan

Have fun exploring and connecting with your inner rainbow of energy & light! I would love to hear
what your experiences are :)

It is truly an honor to be a part of your healing journey and support you in any way I can. Come home to yourself and ignite your inner light and joy ~ your
soul is rooting for you and so am I.

Keep shining your light!

With love and gratitude,
