Community Programming

The 519 will commemorate the 22nd anniversary of Trans Day of Remembrance (TDoR) this Saturday, November 20, 2021. This year's community-chosen theme is "A Circle for Healing and Regenerating".

Join virtually to celebrate and honour the lives of the 2 Spirit, trans, and non-binary siblings lost to transphobia, hate crimes, illness, substance use, suicide, or murder.

Highlights:

  • Opening ceremony featuring the Circle of Cedar Singers, and a moment of silence, followed by
  • Speakers and community performances.

The event will be streamed via Zoom.

2 Spirit, trans, and non-binary folks can pick up a free takeaway meal to enjoy during the virtual event. Please email Meals@The519.org to arrange pick-up. Delivery may be available.

GIPA/MEPA Focus Group Participants Needed

The OAN's Advisory Committee of People Living with HIV is working with their members and Ontario’s community of people living with HIV to update the Ontario Accord and renew our sector’s commitment to GIPA/MEPA.

If you are living with HIV or volunteer or work in an OAN member or affiliate organization, you are invited to participate in a focus group that will guide renewal of the Accord and the principles that guide our work and our sector.

Those who use drugs in Eastern Europe and Central Asia are at risk of persecution, discrimination, and imprisonment, and continue to be deprived of adequate health care and other supports. 

The HIV Legal Network has recently produced a report entitled HUMAN RIGHTS IMPERATIVE: The HIV Legal Network in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, which summarizes the need for their critical work in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region— an area that is suffering because human rights are not being prioritized.

The City of Toronto’s draft IZ policy fails to maximize the potential of this important new tool, despite the urgent need for affordable housing. The policy sets a low bar for developers, requiring far less affordable housing than could be feasibly required while leaving developers a motivating profit margin of at least 15% and landowners with at least 10% above the value of their land based on current use – IZ feasibility criteria used in the City’s 3 commissioned studies
