Hello! I hope your ISIRs are complete, your coffee or beverage of choice is at the right temperature, and it only takes one try to reset your Federal financial aid account access. Amid your day I wanted to bring attention to a couple of items:

Have you renewed your CASFAA membership yet? If not now is the time! For assistance please feel check out our website at Membership FAQs (casfaa.org) and if you are having any other questions please feel free to reach out.

CASFAA 2022 Conference: In person! We are still on track to be back for in-person in October I’ll defer to our awesome Conference Chairs for our save the date details.

College Ave: A Better Student Loan Experience

2022 CASFAA Conference – Save the Dates!

Santa Clara Marriott
Pre-Conference:  October 22 - 23, 2022
General Conference:  October 23 – 25, 2022

We’re back as your Conference Chairs!  We have hosted two virtual conferences over the last two years and are excited to announce our plans to bring back our annual conference in person this year!

The Conference Committee along with the Executive Council has already begun our plans to host our conference at the Santa Clara Marriott.  This was our initial location for our 2020 conference that was delayed due to the pandemic. CASFAA President, Bronwyn Garrison, has chosen this year’s theme “Better Together” as we look forward to reconnecting back in person.

Our Program Committee will be reaching out to our members soon with a Call of Session Proposals. If you have a great idea for a session topic, are interested in being a Presenter, Moderator, or want to serve as a volunteer on the planning committee or registration table, please respond and submit your interests!

More details to come as put together a great program for. We look forward to seeing you there!!

Community College Update

by Luis Vargas, CASFAA Community College Rep

Hello, my name is Luis Vargas and I am excited and looking forward to serving you as the Community College segmental representative this year. A bit about me, I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and I am a proud alumnus of UC Santa Cruz. I am currently the financial aid coordinator at San Jose City College. My experience in financial aid has taken me across various Colleges and Universities including Independent, UC, and now Community College. I look forward to meeting, connecting, and discussing with you all this year and I hope to engage new members as we look forward to the end of this academic year and as we prepare and plan for the 2022-23 year.

UC Update

by Rashinda Hutchinson, CASFAA UC Rep

The UC’s have all gone out with admission decisions for fall 2022 and now is the time that we start to talk to incoming students and families about financial aid. The Outreach season is among us and as we all prepare to deal with counseling new students, we thought it would be important to hear about Outreach from a higher level.

If you want to learn more about Outreach or if your work involves outreach on your campus, you are especially encouraged to attend. Please join us by registering for this event now. Register Here: CASFAA UC Seg Event. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Proprietary Segment Update

by Kevin Roberts, CASFAA Proprietary Segment Rep

The start of 2022 has been interesting to say the least, with the Department of Education coming out swinging with Negotiated Rulemaking covering Ability to Benefit, Administrative Capability, Gainful Employment, Financial Responsibility, Changes in Ownership, Certification Procedures, and 90/10. All areas have a direct impact on our business operations. With many of these issue papers not reaching consensus by the committee, I still encourage you to submit public comments as the final regulations should be published before the end of the year and implemented beginning on July 1, 2023.

Lastly, I want to remind you that we will be having our third “Let’s Talk Brown Bag Luncheon” for our segment. It is scheduled for Wednesday, April 20th from 12 – 1 PM. Please email me if you would like to join us for this fun open forum!
