Are you off to a fruitful school year or are you floundering in confusion, anxiety, and uncertainty? With the holidays in our near future, I typically take this time to assess where we are in our school year and how I need to make adjustments to curriculum, activities, character training, etc. in our homeschool. This strange year is an adjustment for all of us in various ways, but our core priority in training our children at home with godliness and full reliance on Him remains constant. Our Lord is the same! He never changes! He is the answer to ALL things!
Here are some questions I am prompted to ask myself in light of all that is going on in the world. I hope these questions and verses encourage you as you aim to fix your eyes on JESUS despite whatever is happening around you this year.
Am I clicking on the next article on social media that will attempt to give me answers or understanding? OR Am I seeking him diligently (i.e. reading his word faithfully and taking the time to LISTEN to Him) to gain WISDOM and know TRUTH in all things?
"For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.” Proverbs 2:6-9
“See the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore!” Psalm 105:4
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
“My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God.” Psalm 62:5-7
Am I looking for faults of others and judging them based on differences in their beliefs, opinions, and/or actions? OR Am I LOVING others well by taking the time to speak life and encouragement to them, listening to their hearts, serving them, and praying for them?
"Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.” 1 Peter 3:8-9
"Let all that you do be done with love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14
"And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” Ephesians 4:32
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8
Am I looking at the superior academics of my homeschool, exceptional performance that my child shows, and/or the kind nature of my child/children towards others in the community and then patting myself on the back for such a diligent and sacrificing effort to get them there? OR Am I giving God the glory in ALL things, taking the focus off of myself and my children and putting it on HIM?
"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.” 2 Peter 1:3
Praising Jesus that He allows us this beautiful blessing to be able to educate, train, and love our children in our homeschools! Homeschooling friends, let’s continue to run the race with our eyes focused on Him and showing the world that there is eternal hope only to be found in Him.
