The King David Hotel, Divine Luxury!
I'm ashamed to tell you that before I visited Israel, I honestly thought I would get there and see everyone riding around on camels on dirt roads. What I discovered was an incredible ancient-modern city with a light rail running down cobblestone streets...not a camel in sight...lol! And the luxurious King David Hotel, wowzers!
Light Rail on Jaffa St, Jerusalem
On a Spring trip a few years ago, I was treated to a behind the scenes tour of the kitchen at the famous King David Hotel.
After the tour, the chefs surprised us with an over the top meal.
The meal opened up with a bite of delicate cheese encased in a tender fried crust set atop an herbed sauce...a teaser of what was to come.
My friend was served pan seared halibut dressed with a hollandaise sauce and fresh spring veggies. The fish was delicate, flaky on the inside with a crispy charred skin on the outside...cooked to perfection.
My entree was a tender cut of filet mignon dressed with a red wine reduction sauce and spring veggies. That sauce!!! I wanted to lick the plate...it was so good!
Dessert was a 4 course tasting menu.
It started out with a grapefruit sorbet on a bed of pistachio cake garnished with lace cookie shards and vanilla creme anglaise pearls.
Then came the lemon tart with citrus glaze, candied banana, dried mango and chocolate crumbles. The tartness of the lemon was totally perfect.
The third course was chocolate molten cake, gold dusted truffles with chocolate dust.
The finale was coffee with a platter of handmade chocolates and candies.
There are some meals you just don't forget. This is one of them. What a treat it was! I can still taste it...and it makes me miss Jerusalem even more.
Another reason I will never forget that meal was something unique happened. It happened to be Israel's Memorial Day. During the meal, the evening national alarm sounded for 1 minute. As is the custom and unique to Israel, everyone in the restaurant stopped eating and talking. We all put our forks down and stood up in silence for the entire minute. Israelis don't take their freedom for granted...a very moving experience that has had a profound impact on me.

I didn't get a picture but the hotel has a gorgeous back patio that overlooks the old city. A perfect spot for afternoon tea or a refreshing beverage after a day of touring.

In case you missed it or if you're just joining us, I recently wrote about being in Jerusalem during the historic moving of the US Embassy. Click here to read about it.
I eventually did see someone riding a camel, though. Me, ha!
Thanks for reading and remember to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
