Spring 2020 Central Section Newsletter

APA Central Section Survey

On March 17, 2020 a SurveyMonkey was emailed to gather input from our membership in an effort to better understand how we can best serve you. If you have not yet done so, please take a few minutes to complete the survey. The information will be valuable in planning future programs and educational events.
In addition, the APA Central Section is tasked with planning the 2021 California APA Conference, if you'd like to get involved please let us know in the survey. We'd love to hear from you. Survey is available here.


APA Northern California Chapter hosted a Planning and Health in the Time of COVID-19 virtual event in early April. The APA Central Section has adapted to the new normal and hosted our first board meeting via Zoom. In the photo above, we took a screenshot of the board to send appreciation and thanks to our distance learning volunteers: Lorena Cordova and Greg Konar from the APA San Diego Section. Special thanks to our very own Professional Development Officer, Carolina Ilic, for her tireless effort of coordinating this opportunity. Carolina tapped the San Diego Section to provide an AICP Training Program for Central Valley Section members and it proved to be very beneficial to those in the program. Be on the look out for more of these opportunities in the near future. 


Central Section Awards

The Central Section is seeking outstanding planning projects, activities and individuals to recognize for this year's APACA Central Section Planning Awards. The geographic Central Section region is comprised of Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, Stanislaus, Tulare, and Tuolumne Counties. Winners of this award are highly encouraged to request a presentation from the Central Section to present at future County/City Councils.

A Cinco de Mayo & Taco Tuesday Virtual Lunch Event

Join speakers from throughout the Central Section as we reflect upon the state of affairs in the Central Valley. Our virtual lunch will be interspersed with short polls, and we will be encouraging  an open dialogue with opportunities for participation by all.

Event Discussion

• How is COVID-19 affecting planning and development in our communities? What about infrastructure and equity issues?
• What economic, environmental, and health effects are jurisdictions in the Central Section experiencing related to shelter-in-place?
• How do planners address short-, mid-, and long-range implications?
