Between the Sheets

July 5, 2019
We hope everyone had a happy and safe Independence Day.

And good luck to everyone playing in the Firecracker Bonspiel this weekend.

Traditionally, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra plays Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture for its 4th of July concert finale. Now you might be wondering why a song celebrating a Russian victory over the French in their War of 1812 (not our War of 1812), became part of American Independence Day celebrations? You can thank - or blame - Arthur Fiedler
Editor's Note

The GNCC has more than 6,000 members at 70 clubs in 17 states. As an organization we've doubled in size over the last 15 years. While that growth has been great for the sport, the downside is that many of our members haven't had much exposure to our organization's history or our member clubs.

To help address this we're adding some new recurring articles to Between the Sheets. In this issue you'll find the first installment of 'Did you know?' which contains interesting tidbits and trivia from Gwen Krailo, the GNCC Historian. In the fall we'll kick off 'Meet Our Clubs' - an introduction to the wide variety of clubs that make up the GNCC. We hope you'll enjoy these new features.

Did you know?

As GNCC Historian, I have been asked to do a series of articles about the GNCC for Between the Sheets. In researching the GNCC history for our 150thanniversary book, I discovered some interesting facts.  Anyone interested in trivia or our illustrious history, please keep reading.
