Seniors Stay Strong!

The end of high school is so close that you can already feel the summer laziness settling over you. But wait! For most of you there are AP/IB or final exams and papers to finish. I know the attitude of "does it really matter?" can be pervasive but YES, it does matter to finish strong. College admissions and scholarships are revoked every year. As a bonus, if you do finish with even higher grades, you could get a higher scholarship amount!

Summer College Visits

Summer planning is under way, and it is a great time to visit colleges. Even though there may not be a lot of students on campus, you can still have an informational session and go on a campus tour. Often professors are around too, so if you arrange a visit in advance you might even be able to schedule a meeting with a faculty member in a department of interest. So add a college or two to your summer travels!

ACT or SAT?

When it comes to standardized tests, colleges will accept either the ACT or SAT. How do you know which one is right for you? Are you a strong reader? Maybe the SAT will work better for you. Have a good foundation in STEM subjects? Maybe the ACT is your test. A low stakes way to find out which is the test for you is to take a mock SAT and ACT this summer. Many test prep companies offer free or low cost online versions.

Adulting 101

I've heard this mentioned by several parents and now have come across an article on helping your teen develop some of those adult skills that we take for granted, like grocery shopping, cleaning and laundry, before they head off to college. What about creating your own "Adulting 101" curriculum for your teen/s this summer?
