A Letter From the Director

Our second summer through the pandemic is coming to a close. I am in awe of how your organizations enabled uninterrupted care to those we serve through the significant challenges these times have placed on the behavioral health community. From shifting quickly to telehealth, launching community pop-up clinics, and increasing food bank donations while also prioritizing the mental health of your staff, you have worked tirelessly to deliver on your commitments.

That is why I am excited to join DSAMH as their director and continue supporting your teams in providing seamless access to appropriate behavioral care that is both advanced and client-focused. In my former role at the Department of Correction, I partnered with many of you in caring for individuals with substance use and mental health disorders. I'm proud to continue that work in my new capacity and work with your teams in a different context. Thank you for participating in DTRN, one of many resources that have made navigating this new environment a little bit easier. Everything we accomplish is powered by you!
~Joanna Champney, DSAMH Director

Expanding Social Determinants of Health with Transportation!

Many of you have vocalized the struggle your clients have with getting to needed treatment. In response, DTRN has begun providing transportation to those who need it through a patient ride-ordering referral service. The tool is part of a suite of capabilities for Delawareans needing substance use or mental health treatment. It is accessible on DTRN via self-service, making access to care more convenient. Patient care coordinators and healthcare providers will receive the patient's ETA and real-time status, reducing transportation coordination challenges for Delaware providers. As we continue to build out the referral service, we will share information with you and your leadership about the launch of the new service. Stay tuned!
