Dear Ones,
Alleluia! Christ is Risen! The Lord is Risen indeed, Alleluia! In the Exsultet, sung around the world last night at the Easter Vigil, deacons sang, "Christ broke the prison-bars of death and rose victorious from the underworld." We shout out Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! In the midst of this global pandemic crisis, the stone was rolled away. We have been redeemed, and the night is as bright as day. Even knowing this deep down into our bones, it might be difficult to feel the joy that is Easter today. Yet, joy is where we are called, because love won! Love won and always will. Even when we don't feel it, or think that we can't see it through suffering and fear and hard news, the light of Christ shines around us. Neighbors are looking out for each other with kindness. People who can sew masks are sewing. Those less at risk pick up medicine and groceries for those most at risk. People are putting others before themselves to save lives. The unjust systems of empire are being exposed even more clearly. Alleluia! Christ is Risen! St. Augustine said, "we are an Easter People, and Alleluia is our song. Easter, for us, isn’t just a day or even a season. It’s a life of resurrection where we die and are reborn every day. Through God's grace we are transformed into who God intends us to be. So we love those we love, those we don't love, and those we don't even know. We shine Christ's light, and we are gentle with ourselves and others. Alleluia! Christ is Risen! The Lord is Risen indeed! Alleluia!
Blessings on this Easter Day,
