English. Jesuit Worldwide Learning (JWL) in collaboration with Jesuit universities offers educational programmes to more than 700 students in 9 learning centres.
Afghanistan is home to the New Horizon community learning centre, frequented by hundreds of young people who have to walk for an hour or more to attend. They are determined to study, regardless of the weather, political uncertainties or recently imposed restrictions, and among the students who study at New Horizon, more than 60 per cent are women.
Since September 2021, when the Taliban became the government of Afghanistan, JWL students and New Horizon members mustered their courage and spoke with the local community and the new leadership in order to reopen their learning centres. To learn more about this story, read the full article here.
