Trinity Sunday: "The Good, Beautiful and True"
This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, where we consider the mystery of God in three persons; Creator, Son & Holy Spirit. It also marks the beginning of yet another liturgical season known as Ordinary Times, a long stretch from Pentecost to Advent when we focus on our “ordinary” days. This season in the summer months offers us an opportunity to ask ourselves "How do I spend my time when I don’t have the extra obligations of the busier times of year? How can I live with more joy and a balanced rhythm of work and play?"

Don't get me wrong, there is still work to be done in ordinary time and busy-ness continues for some. But, it may also feel quite ordinary in the summer months. Know that we can still experience God not just in “spiritual” activities like church, but in our everyday, menial tasks if we're willing to look for it. All of the small, ordinary events of our lives can be sacramental, meaning that God can meet us in the earthy, material world where we live and play.

So, what will you "savor" during this ordinary time? And how can you be aware of the sacramental in the ordinary, everyday tasks of life? This season, void of big holidays, serves as a perfect time to notice the holy in the everyday and find reasons to orient ourselves toward joy and peace. We'll talk about some of these possibilities in our community this Sunday in worship and encourage one another to seek God in all the things we plan to do this summer. By doing so, we just might find more joy and peace in the busier times of year.

Pastor Christian

P.S. Kelli, Jack and I are looking forward to some time away in nature this summer. Know that we will be gone from June 20 to July 1 for vacation. Then, Jack and I will be headed to Elementary Camp at Camp Cedar Glen from July 10-16. Cheryl Reagan will be available for emergency pastoral care.

Oh, What a Weekend!

When Consecration Sunday and Pentecost Sunday coincide, it's a great reason to throw an all-church party. Thanks to Rich and Muriel Mellor's leadership, that's exactly what LM1 did last Sunday....and the whole community was invited. The Destination Celebration kicked off right after church with the rousing sounds of The Racket Club bagpipe and drum band featuring our own Jonathan Parker in our Fireside Park. Close to 150 people, many dressed in Pentecost red, were treated to food truck goodies, Kona Ice sno-cones, birthday cookies, a bounce house and a giant, inflatable slide. The party also featured an eclectic (and profitable!) silent auction organized by Linda Horrell raising $511 and Mr. Piggy brought in another $117! The children's book sale hosted by Amy & Sandra, our Children's Center Director and Assistant Director, raised nearly $100 for the preschool! Thank you to all the people who worked so hard to bring this event together. Life-long memories were made!
Yoga Class Comes to LM1
What better way to start off your week than with a relaxing session of yoga with two seasoned instructors?

Beginning next Monday at 4pm, Sue Sullivan and Kat Papike will bring the same class they are teaching on Wednesdays at the Good Shepherd's Ministry Center in El Cajon to our Social Hall. Class will end at 4:45, so parents of Children's Center students can attend before picking up their "littles" and heading home for dinner. All levels of yoga practitioners are welcome -- from first-time participants to those who have a lifetime of experience. Modifications are available for all physical abilities.

The suggested donation for attending is $5 per class. No preregistration is required, so bring a yoga mat (if you have one) wear comfortable clothes and join us for this unique opportunity to bring body, mind and spirit together. We are able to provide mats if you need to borrow one. Also, if you have any yoga mats or blocks you aren't using, we will happily take them for this purpose.

We are pleased to announce that this year Summer Choir is happening for our adults and children! If you have ever thought about singing with us during the year or would just like to participate in July, mark your calendars for Thursdays and Sundays beginning June 30th!
We are happily rebuilding our programs following COVID shut-downs and looking forward to including new singers. This could be YOU!

Children's Center: Busy Final Month of the School Year!

As the school year comes to a close, there's more activity than ever at our Children's Center! On Saturday, June 4th, children and families marched in La Mesa's Flag Day Parade, thanks to a sponsorship and donation from Menchie's in the La Mesa Springs Shopping Center. (Consider treating yourself to a frozen yogurt soon and thanking them for their support of LM1.)

On June 17 at 3pm we'll say "Happy Summer" to our Children's Center graduates as the school year ends and at the same time celebrate Administrator Sherry Ewert's retirement after over a decade of service! All are welcome to join us for this celebration in the courtyard. Here are a few past Children's Center alumnae celebrating their high school graduation this year!
Speaking of support, did you know you can buy Usborne Books for your family and the company will donate books to our Children's Center? Just scan the QR code below to open their catalog and start shopping. Summertime is a great opportunity to keep kids reading and learning from home!

Getting Ready for Camp Cedar Glen Campers

Summer Youth Camp is just around the corner and there's work to be done to get our beautiful camp in Julian ready for guests. Please consider joining a work party for a Camp Cedar Glen Volunteer Day June 22 from 10am-4pm. Let us know you will help here.

If volunteering isn't an option for you, maybe you can help the camp out with new supplies they need before the summer rush. Here's their wish list:
  • 100 pairs of scissors
  • 50 packs of markers
  • 50 bottles of hand sanitizer
  • 25 packets of Clorox wipes
  • 25 packages of baby wipes
  • 50 3-ring binders
  • Ziplock bags
  • New craft supplies
  • Lanyard and friendship bracelet materials
  • Colored construction paper
  • New balls and sports equipment
For questions, email here. You can bring your donations to church anytime before June 20. Thank you, in advance for any help you can offer!
Vacation Bible School is Coming

Don't miss the chance to register your children for VBS the first week of August. Open to all pre-school children 4 years and older from LMUMCC and LM1 and K-5th in the community, the entire week costs only $25; $20 for additional siblings. Click here to help with teaching, crafts, food preparation or supervision. Click here for registration. We can't wait to celebrate God's goodness with the children of La Mesa!

Celebrating Grads and Dads

Father's Day is June 19 and it's also a day when we honor graduates. Pastor Christian would like to celebrate your graduates from the pulpit and include their names and photos in the E-Mirror.

If you have a family member in the class of 2022, please send us their information so we can honor them. Email Pastor Christian your graduate's name; your relationship to them; the name of the school they attended; a photo if you'd like one included; and any degrees, honors or titles being confirmed upon them. We're excited to celebrate all the hard work that goes in to reaching this important milestone.

Shopping for Someone in June?

June is here and with it, some major milestone celebrations! If you have a graduate in your life and you're unsure what present to give, consider a gift card that lets them make their own choice. Is there a dad or mentor in your circle who deserves a special Father's Day shout-out? We've got great gift card options for meals out, book sellers and more.  Finally, if "love is in the air" and you have a wedding to celebrate, we've got gift cards for that too!

Whoever you want to treat with a special gift (even if it's yourself!) we hope you will shop with us so your purchase benefits our church and Children's Center.  We carry great gift cards through Raise Right for your regular shopping or gift-giving available through the church office and on the patio, Sundays after worship. You can also email Suanne Dewey-Hoffman to place your order or get the code to sign-up online.
