Greater Springfield Senior Services
We are Here to Help!
Greetings to all of our subscribers,
We are entering a new phase of the pandemic with a sense of hope and resolve to get to the finish line. This pandemic has proven to be a formidable opponent and it calls on each of us to stay the course until we arrive at the finish line. At GSSSI, we are starting to see the promise of hope in the eyes of our consumers.
This past week GSSSI was pleased to partner with Carr Properties to assist with education and translation services for the vaccination clinics currently held for HUD 202 properties residents. I had the pleasure of volunteering at one of the vaccination sites and I was humbled by what I witnessed. The gentle touch of our Nurses eased the anxiety of residents who are hard-of-hearing, vision impaired and eager to spend more time with loved ones.
Our compassionate Case Managers were able to provide comfort by providing residents the opportunity to speak to someone in their native language. These staff members were the embodiment of our mission in action, assisting older adults with the maintenance of their independence, dignity and providing peace of mind.
We are pleased we could assist at all the Carr Properties locations including: Independence House, Costello House, Seniority House, Falcon Knoll, Emerson Manor, Brownstone Gardens, Genesis Life Care, and Highland House.
I would like to recognize and applaud the following GSSSI staff for their contributions to the success of these clinics:
GSSSI will continue to serve as the “GO TO” resource for vaccination clinic/distribution information. Our Information and Referral staff will continue to gather information from community partners and providers about vaccination sites and/or opportunities.
In the coming days and weeks ahead, our staff will be gathering the latest information and sharing it with the public via our social media platforms and any other media opportunities.
As I think about my personal decision to receive the vaccine, I know I want to be part of the solution. I understand the public health crisis upon us and I have witnessed the toll it has taken on the vulnerable populations we serve. The best thing I can do to assist my community and my family is to become vaccinated. I also understand that vaccination is only part of the answer. As a community we need to maintain social distancing, continue to wear a mask, and adhere to frequent hand washing in order to achieve herd immunity.
Click on the links below for information about the two vaccines presently available for your consideration.
As a community, we can beat COVID but it takes each of us to do our part. GSSSI will continue to do its part and I hope you will too.
A special thank you to Community Legal Aid (CLA) attorneys Jan Stiefel and Jaime Margolis for providing an on-line in-service to agency staff this past November 2020.
GSSSI Training Coordinator, Erin Godfrey collaborated with CLA to ensure GSSSI staff have up to date legal information and resources. Having the latest information directly impacts the quality of service we are able to give to the older adults and individuals with disabilities we serve every day.
CLA provided attendees with education on free civil legal services available to low-income and older adults in the local communities. Information on CLA is available at https://communitylegal.org.
We would like to share the spotlight with you!
