We Are Here To Help!
GSSSI - Community Resource Experts

By the year 2030, it is estimated that one out of every four persons living in Massachusetts will be aged 65 or older. There are currently only 450 practicing geriatricians in the Commonwealth, and one has to wonder how community and medical services will adapt to this population shift.
Luckily for the 12 towns in our catchment area, Greater Springfield Senior Services has provided quality elder care services since 1972. GSSSI remains true to our mission of serving older adults and those living with disabilities by providing comprehensive and person-centered services that allow them to live safely in the setting of their choice. Since then, we have helped thousands of consumers, and we pride ourselves on our commitment to adapting to our community's ever-changing needs.
Therefore, it was no surprise to learn that Baystate Health, the most extensive health care system in Western Massachusetts, has asked GSSSI to become a Community Resource Expert in the Baystate Health Geriatric TeleECHO Clinic.
Many medical professionals have reported limited training regarding available community resources, and this collaboration aims to increase patient access to supportive services available and educate professionals at the same time.  TeleECHO™ program's goal is to train Primary Care Clinicians to provide specialty care services, meaning  more people can get the right care, in the right place, at the right time, improving medical outcomes and reducing medical costs.
GSSSI Information and Referral Department Supervisor Brenda Labbe has been selected to sit on a panel of medical professionals twice a month to consult on available community services for patients ready to be discharged.  Brenda is our resident caregiver and community resource expert and has almost a decade of experience working in the older adult field, not to mention her extensive experience as a caregiver herself.  Brenda is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner and has been a volunteer Medicare counselor for many years.
Baystate Health wants to make sure by 2024; no older adult will be more than thirty minutes away from a primary care practice with enhanced expertise in geriatrics and access to inter-professional support.
With these shared goals in mind, GSSSI is honored to be a part of this project, and we look forward to working closely with our Baystate Health colleagues in the years to come. Together, we hope to close the health equity gap in our community and bring quality in-home services and advocacy to our communities.

For her generous donation in memory of Anna Socha

Through the generosity of donors, GSSSI is able to meet the increased needs being placed upon older adults and persons with disabilities during this pandemic. Donations have allowed us the opportunity to expand our capability for purchasing additional KN-95 masks for our Home Delivered Meal Drivers, purchasing additional food supplies for the community, and acquiring technology to assist in remote services.
