Mother's Love

To everyone who still reads this: CIAO!

I am re-writing everything for the second time (thanks internet!) and sadly it will never be as good as the first one but I'll try.

I have been absent from this space for a while but I felt it was needed.
I don't want to send out this newsletter for the sake of it.

I was finally able to travel home and I saw my parents after a year and a half... it was a surreal experience. I have found myself observing these familiar faces and places of my childhood in a completely detached way and I almost fell into a trance that forced me to document every little detail.
I think a small part of me felt this was necessary to cope with the possibility of this forced absence happening again.

I spent time with my parents and relatives and enjoyed all those routine rituals that I always took for granted when living at home, all those slices of life they deem too boring to be recorded were the highlight of my days. The calm that pervades their lives is so far removed from my experience as of late that I almost felt drunk with it.
It was a necessary trip and I feel renewed and grateful, I just wish I could have stayed longer...

Catching up: What have I been doing since my last newsletter?
I have been following the adventures of artist Henrik Delhag who lives and works in a magnificent bell tower.
I have visited his studio and took some photographs.
Now he's reached the end of his fundraiser and there are very few days left. He his trying to raise £ 1Million to save the tower from being redeveloped into flats. To make it an artist residence for 100 artists in the next 100 years. He is raising the money through the sale of his art and ownership of various pieces of the tower.
I think it's a great idea and one with sharing. If you have the time, please visit his website and check out his giant art sale.

Finally...one last bit of news for this newsletter: I am extremely excited to go on my first ever residency next week!
It's a 3-day stay in the New Forest where I and other artists are going to be working on the theme of 'Despatch'. I admit it doesn't seem real to me yet and I have to think about this theme seriously before I leave... any ideas???
