Our Back Yard Is Looking Great!

Our back play yard is getting an upgrade.  After purchasing our new kennels that everyone worked very hard to raise the money for in 2017 Thank you all again these kennels have really been wonderful this year. Nice and big easy to open and close and the best part they are standing up to the daily wringer we put them through for almost an entire year.
After this monsoon-like fall and winter, we have had our kennel runs are mud pits and our kennels are sinking into the ground. Not to mention some of our diggers have noticed the soft ground and have begun to tunnel out.
Jail Break!
Our solution lay a concrete slab with adequate drainage, a smooth surface for cleaning ease and paw-friendly, then place our kennels on the slab. No more digging out, no more sinking kennels, and best of all no more slogging through the mud to take dogs out for much-needed play time.

Thank you to John Croom for organizing the concrete pad job for our dog kennels!!!!!
Thank you to Toole Construction & Contracting
(Rodney & Jennifer Toole) for donating your time and talent!!!!!

Sock Up For Kitten Season

Kitten season is on its way and we are preparing by collecting all the supplies that we can for the hundreds of kittens we care for throughout the spring and fall and we need your help.  Last year we helped 526 kittens find homes. That is a lot of kitty litter, and cat food. Please help us stock up to prepare here are some of the Items we need.
  • Kitty Litter
    • Kitty litter must be clumping and not lightweight. The lightweight gets stuck in tiny kittens fur.
    • We recommend Purina  Tidy Cats Scoop 35lb Pail
  • Purina Kitten Chow
    • Changing a cats food can make them have an upset stomach we try and keep all kittens on the same brand and flavor.
  • Friskies Pate Canned Cat food
    • Pate is listed on the box it means that it is ground up very fine and not in large chunks, its very helpful for kittens just learning how to eat.
  • Kitten Milk Replacer
    • We recommend Pet AG Milk Replacer Plus Powder it keeps longer than the liquid.

Thank you to Kelly Blizman of Perry for donating 13 Leyland Cypress Trees for our front fence line.
Thank you to John Croom for planting them.
We now have the two metal walls in the back of the building where our dogs live covered with foam insulation. No more cold cold or hot hot days

Arrow's Story
Arrow had an arrow in his right shoulder, his owners did not want to proceed with treatment so they surrendered him to FOPAS. He spent six days at Westmoreland and Slappy animal hospital in Perry. They surgically removed the arrow then it was time to work on mending the wound and keeping it clean. Arrow then came to FOPAS to join all of our other dogs who get outside playtime during the day and kenneled at night. Arrow loves laying on the bench in the sunshine, arrows wound, however, did not.
He then went back to Westmorland and Slappy animal hospital to have the wound checked and it was infected so he then had to stay another 10 days to have his wound flushed and covered along with antibiotics. Although we do pay "rescue price" for veterinary care, thank you Westmorland and Slappy animal hospital! Arrow's care was very expensive well exceeding the 150$ adoption fee. For cases like Arrows, we rely on the support of the community to help us fund the care cost and save these "hard case" cats and dogs.
