UPCOMING EVENTS

AFJM Coffeehouse
Money as a "Common" of the People

with Edward Twohig
Monday, January 23rd
At 8 PM ET / 7 PM CT / 6 PM MT / 5 PM PT via Zoom

REGISTER
In most, if not all, countries, the creation of money and credit is controlled by the Law, as determined "by the people, for the people." Sovereign money is unique because its exchange value is guaranteed by the Government. Thus the Government should recover the value for the use of money, and for its provision as a common of the people.

Please review
Edward's work prior to the Coffeehouse.

Dr. Desan Reading Circle and Q&A

AFJM's Membership and Movement Committee hosted a Reading Circle this fall on Harvard Law School professor Dr. Christine Desan's 2022 paper, "
How To Spend a Trillion Dollars: Our Monetary Hardwiring, Why It Matters, and What To Do About It." We met three times to study this 62-page academic paper and are meeting a final time for a Q&A discussion with Dr. Desan on Wednesday, January 11th at 7:30-9PM ET.

If you have fully read the paper and want to attend the event, please email
reform@monetaryalliance.org to indicate your interest. A recording of the Q&A session will be available for all to view on our YouTube channel after the event.

NEWSWORTHY

Money as a Democratic Medium 2.0 Conference
Dr. Christine Desan and the
Just Money network announced their Money as a Democratic Medium 2.0 Conference. The Conference will be held at two sites: Cambridge, MA (Harvard Law School, June 15-17, 2023) and Hamburg, Germany (the Hamburg Institute for Social Research and The New Institute, University of Würzburg, June 15-16, 2023).

The Conference aims to amplify inquiry, research, and debate over money as a public project. The first
Money as a Democratic Medium Conference was held in December 2018, and a number of AFJM members attended. The 2023 meeting will bring together those working across disciplines, locales, and subject areas to consider the way societies make money and allocate credit as an essential element in the way they govern themselves.

The organizers are accepting proposals for specialized panel sessions. Please
submit your proposals by February 1st, 2023. Registration for the Conference will open on March 1st, 2023.

Marketing Just Money Reform by Lucille Eckrich
AFJM recently sent its first “cold marketing” mailing to a test market of 2,000 households in four upper-income, urban communities in California, Illinois, and New York. This was an investment that we trust will pay diverse dividends, in the short term by attracting new subscribers, donors, and members to AFJM. In the longer term, these newcomers may lead AFJM to connect with novel networks. For now, however, we have in mind additional ways to put this 8-page booklet on Just Money Reform to good use, and this is where you come in!
