Round Twelve Match Reports

Presidents Report

Another match day at Douglas st oval after a lengthy break seeing the sun out and the smiling faces on all the players happy to be back playing football. All our cadet referees in action as well as yet another qualified volunteer referee for our u14’s and MAA game, a massive thanks to Andrew Parsons for doing those games for us and Ella for stepping up to an assistant referee.

Our chocolate fundraiser has come to an end with over half the money returned. The second last home day of the season was a success once again thanks to our amazing volunteers some who even get our day set up before the sun is even up. We look forward to our final match day next Saturday then photo day and the woman’s all age on Sunday.

It was nice to be back at our home ground this week. The under 5s koalas played against the under 5s from Swansea and it was a tough challenge. It was obvious that our opponents from Swansea have been working hard at their training sessions. We did our best and I want to say well done to each of our players for their work in defence, we saved lots of goals and worked well as a team to shut down the opposition's attack.

We didn’t get many opportunities to attack but when we did we had a couple of great close shots at goal and one spectacular goal.

The KFC player of the match this week went to Ben for his amazing goal and efforts around the field.

See you next week Koalas!

Under 5/2

An outstanding game today as the teams grows in confidence. Ed and Jackson were strong in defence and Regan was tenacious, but still smiling, in attack. Harrison and Charlie remain consistent in the midfield, with some great saves, but Will was a standout today. He was courageous in attack and seemed to be in everything. This resulted in him being our man of the match.

Well done kids.

Under 6/1

We had Emily P, Oliver, Aurora, Frazer and Eli at the oval ready to play against Toronto today. We tried to focus on the aim of the game get the ball off the opposition and into the net whilst having fun and I think it helped their overall game.

The team should be very proud of themselves they played really well today and fought very hard to get the ball into the net. Great game, great atmosphere, great support.

Frazer did some outstanding field dribbles, good tackles and goal attempts. Emily got in and got to the ball many times, with some great kicks to get the ball away from the other team. Eli lots of steam In defence and tackling and some amazing boot shots at the goal.  Oliver saved goals many times and did some great runs and passing the ball through the opposition.

Finally, Aurora (today’s player of the match), scored a great goal and really tried hard to get in on the action and get the ball for us today.

Under 6/2

A beautiful morning down at our home ground, Douglass street Oval against Toronto/Awaba.
Everyone played a great job of soccer. Hudson scoring our only goal for the day but not without Harlen passing the ball to Hudson to kick in front. Khaleesi kicked some nice kicks with Korbyn and Kobi running after the ball. Everyone played great defence stopping some close goals.

Our Abbey’s Coffee Co player of the week went to Joel who played a great game of soccer, getting in and getting the ball and just missing a goal. Great job Joel, keep up the great work.
Great game all.

Under 6/3

Our little 6/3’s took to the field against Westlakes at home today.

They all took off with a burst of energy with Levi scoring our first goal, followed by Beau, Fletcher and Taj who all contributed to our whopping 18-1 score!

We had Mia get stuck in with some great chases and tackles, Beau with awesome defensive pressure on Westlakes.

Jesse had some great runs and gained possession of the ball for the team.

Tahj played a terrific game with some awesome kicks and getting goals for the team. Player of the week goes to Tahj for his great effort.

The kids all played a great game which was fast paced and it was great to see the kids all working together.

Good job guys :)

Under 7/1

With a couple of players down this week, the kids put in a great effort with only 1 sub, at home against Cardiff Sth. Jax and Eli scored a couple of great goals with Karstan and Georgie very close. Georgia was putting in her usual strong defensive effort stopping as many goals as possible.

Even in the strong winds, the dribblers didn't give up and had a great game! A very big thank you to Scott for stepping in and coaching the kids this week.

Congratulations to Georgie who played her best game of the season, never shying away from the ball, running up the front at every opportunity and dropping back in defence when needed and took home our player of the week award.

We had all our Cheetahs back together this week for our game at home against Swansea.
Each week we are seeing our team improve and grow and today was no different. During the game we saw good performances from everyone which in turn meant we were doing everything we have been working towards. We saw great passes to each other, marking of players, staying in positions, defending, attacking, being aggressive and dominate in tackles, calling for the ball, spreading out, and most importantly having fun. All plyers really tried their best this week and it was a top game to watch.
Today Aylah and Spencer had a turn as goalkeeper. Aylah making some great saves during her first half in there.

Today our Centennial Coal player of the match went to Izzy. Izzy has such a great attitude at soccer, she never gives up or takes a step backward. During today’s game Izzy was all over the field, she worked hard, and was consistently putting pressure on the Swansea players. She also pushed herself to win the ball in tackles and take it to our end where is almost managed to slot a few goals at different stages of the game. We have watched Izzy grow and improve so much as the season has progressed and today, she showed great skills and determination. Izzy you are a pleasure to have in the team, keep up the great work.

Big thankyou again to all the parents for respecting the current conditions. Thanks also to Annika (Izzy’s mum) for taking the time to snap some awesome action photos of the game, all the parents are very thankful.

Today we went up against Swansea at home which was an amazing fast paced game.

The boys took the the field and all had tremendous attacking and defending skills.

We saw Noah Y take out our first goal followed by Kai, Noah F, Casey and Logan giving us a final score of 9-1.

We had Noah F in goals the first half and Nixon in the second, both saving some great shots from going in.

Ari, Jayden, Rhys and Casey all had awesome runs and tackles all providing support for the boys taking the shots.

The boys missed two of their friends today but we know Riley and Mason would be stoked for their efforts.

Our player of the week today went to Jayden for his excellent skills controlling the ball and obtaining possession.

What a game!

I was a beautiful day for soccer and being a home game it was our time to shine.

The team got off to a great start and really dominated in the first half with Wangi barely getting a look at their goals.

The team went from strength to strength with the players getting more confident as the game went on ending the match with 13 goals to nil.

Our one choice concrete player of the match was Nixon.

Under 9/1

Dudley/Redhead came out firing! We knew it was going to be a hard game. Anders put his hand up to be goalie in the first half. He did a great job, saving many shots on goal. Josh, Sam and Will were all unlucky not to score, putting in their best efforts all game. Eli and Charlie always reliable in the midfield did their best to keep the ball moving. Dylan, Theo and Ronan were great up back, booting some nice kicks up the field.  Goalie Jacob, in the second half, took Dudley/Redhead by surprise with a great run up the middle, unlucky not to score a goal.

Will deservedly receiving our Lake Macquarie Crane Hire player. Justin was impressed with the way Will ran the ball up the field, held his space and assisted with some nice passes for chances on goal.  Despite a few lapses in play, the boys came off smiling. Two weeks to go, see you all Wednesday for training. Hopefully its not so freezing!

Back at home for a blustery winter’s day, great to be playing after a three week break. Angus opened the goal scoring followed by Braxton and Reuben. The boys each bagged a couple of goals in our game against Toronto.

Our strong defence in the first half of William, James and Jaxon, reflected their growing understanding of marking. This is an area they have been working on at training. Ryan was the last line of defence in goals in the first half. Well done defenders.

A big thank you to our super subs Jax and Eli for helping out the 9/2’s with our depleted numbers.
James receives our Southlakes Medical Player of the week, for his outstanding second half in goals. Great job James!
See you all at training on Thursday boys.

This week we welcomed Swansea to a windy Douglas Street Oval.

The first half was a very evenly matched game. Oliver Boughton opened the scoring, showing great determination to get onto a perfect through ball provided by Rylee, Rylee once again working hard in attack and defence. The team controlled the game well, creating chances to double the lead with Oliver Brann unlucky not to score.

Tyler Woodford was outstanding in goal all game and it took a high looping shot to make the scores level. The defensive back line made up of Ryan, Harry, Tyler and Jacob Ward put in a great effort to make sure we got to the halftime break all square.

H/T SLUFC 1 Swansea 1

The Second half started the same as the first, but Swansea worked hard to wear down our defence and scored two goals. Antonio worked hard all game up front, making many forward runs in an attempt to make a come back.

We were down on numbers this week, so we called in reinforcements, Reuben Woodford from the U9s and Ava Boughton from U8s. Both doing a great job when  on the field and both should be very proud.

F/T SLUFC 1 Swansea 3

Overall a satisfying performance from the team against a very good Swansea side who blew us away in the first fixture 7-2.

This weeks Hunter Packaging player of the game went to Harry Fisher.

After a few week's break the girls were keen to rip in and have a good game. It wasn’t long and Winnie was back into the swing of putting the ball in the net to make it an early 1 nil score line. Shortly after the ever-reliable Amber was not to be outdone and belted a blinder to make it 2 nil. Coach Col lost count how many times Eden made a run to the nets and was very unlucky not to score. Her efforts were outstanding. As always, the defence held strong and it was pleasing to see the combination of Stella, Ava & Jen working together to foil any Swansea attack. All three have perfected the clearance kick turning defence into attack within seconds. Once again in the midfield Betzi was playing her heart out and was rewarded with a spectacular goal to make it 3 nil. Hunter was solid as a rock in goals and ensured a clean sheet going into the second half.

The second half the team started strong and Millie was playing with great style. Jasmine was upping the ante and it was great to see her ripping in and making some great runs to break the opposition's heart. Indie was pushed up front and played strongly, impressing the coach. Hunter was allowed to show off her skills in the second half and has perfected the back heel. Winnie ensured a goal repeat smashing another blinder to make it 4 nil. Jen was playing for the opposition in the second half and was unlucky not to score for Swansea. Coach Col will be pushing her up front from now on!

Sienna played her heart out and impressed with her fantastic runs and gusto in defence. She was relentless and as a result of her performance, it was a mere formality that Coach Col awarded Sienna the Player of The Week. Great job Sienna and enjoy the ‘chips’!

Southern lakes under 14's round 12 battle with Toronto stags🦌
Getting down to the pointy end of the season and 2 teams both going for the last position in the finals. It was easy for the coach to realise this as well today within the squad with a lot of nervous faces before kickoff.

The game started evenly and not before too long we had to try and do it the hard way with us conceding 5 mins in and their heads dropped before we fought so hard as a group,  Then just before halftime we got back in the game and we hit back and leveled it up with our captain Cooper Mitchell doing it all himself from close range then we took all the momentum into halftime with the players, parents and crowd lifting the team and the team's spirits lifted.

The second half we just had to be the better team with us needing to pass better than them and keeping coming as a group with end to end football with both teams realising what was up for grabs and both teams having heaps of opportunities to win the game then with just over 5 minutes left we fell asleep on a corner with one player out jumping our team inside our box with the stags player just wanting the ball more heading home from close range.

A moment which 10 seconds within an hour of football today and 12 games which we fell asleep leaves our season hanging by a thread.

From here we need to win our 2 remaining games and hope Toronto lose one of their last 2 games with us having the best for and against which may be the deciding factor.

A shattered group after the game which we will keep going the next 2 weeks and keep our fingers and legs crossed for the remaining results going our way.

A day where our efforts were there for the whole game and 2 very even sides slogged it out for an hour and just one side wanted it a bit more and made the most of their chances.

Proud of them all today even though we didn't get the result that the group needed 👊

A nice sunny day in downtown Dora when the mighty Southern AA took to the field, against Scone, with a 433 formation, a bit rusty early on after having not played for a few weeks, and Scone scored early on with their very talented young striker, but we had a few opportunities to equalise, then after bout 20 mins we got a corner, a nice inswinger from the tall no 12 managed to find Nathan, who stooped low to score with an excellent header, 1-1, the game was fairly even until we conceded a free kick just outside the box, and with a bit of help from wind left Super Dave in goal stranded, 2-1 at half time, a change at half time, with a promising young fella Adam came on.

Scone scored again to make it 3-1, but we lifted and a mix up between their Defence and keeper, gave Darren the opportunity to fire into net, 3-2 , the momentum was with us, again we got a corner, which no 12 took, straight onto penalty spot and with a bit of argy bargy, Scone fouled,  Penalty Darren stepped up and cooly slotted ball home, 3-3.. last 5 minutes were a bit nervy,.. but final score 3-3.. a great game.. big thanks to Jess, Young Chris,  Super Dave and young up and comer Adam, that boy will go far...very proud of how everyone has pulled together for Team and Club..well done

Southern Lakes vrs Shortland

The whole team gave it there all today, everyone dug deep and put in a huge effort to keep the ball in our half. A big hooray for these girls for the positive humble team spirit and effective team workmanship.

We had many many goal attempts today but the three feet who got it in today were Mia, Jess and Nat / thanks for those nifty sharp shooting boots.

No 12: Rebecca Smith - generally our right or left back - puts in 110% each week - through her into mids today again gave it her all and did what we needed her so! Hats of to you - keep it up.

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors!
