Space Up Bulletin - Helsinki Space Academy | May 2019
We are now coming up to the first of our 6 Space Academies and related services that the SpaceUp project has to offer. This exciting interactive two-day event will take place in Helsinki, Finland, on 3rd - 4th June, aimed at European ​space-tech entrepreneurs keen on accelerating their business

Following a successful Call for space entrepreneurs and start-ups, the SpaceUp Evaluation Committee reviewed all the applications and 10 companies were selected to benefit from high-level services from SpaceUp experts, with one-to-one meetings analysing business models, looking at feasibility studies, assessing management and human resources, intellectual property advice, and much more. 

If you cannot join us in Helsinki, mark 19th-21st November in your diaries for the second of our Space Academies, this time in Bremen, Germany.
These 10 companies will be receiving specific individual high-level services from the SpaceUp experts prior to and during the Space Academy, for free.

Agricolous A cloud ecosystem of Precision farming applications: Decision Support Systems, forecast models, smart pest and disease control, remote sensing. A complete solution for any agronomic need.
Alba Orbital A Scottish Satellite Start-Up. They designed and developed the world’s most advanced PocketQubes and provide PocketQube developers launch opportunities. Their aim is to democratise access to space. 

Orora Tech Developing a constellation of 100 nanosatellites with innovative multispectral imagers in the thermal infrared range or applications such as wildfire detection, including wildfire front monitoring and radiative power measurements, tracking of extreme weather conditions and global monitoring of climate change. 
Plan Blue Composed of 6 full-time employees. Its main strength is the high diversity within the team (skill-set and profession). They have the knowledge to further the DiveRay technology and have an extensive international network to the monitoring market.

Precision Navigation Systems OÜ - HIVE A developing software and hardware solutions for the variety of applied and infrastructural tasks using GNSS technology. HIVE helps drones, robots, self-driving cars, e-scooters, IoT modules and any other GPS-equipped autonomous systems to be positioned, navigated and tracked with up to 1 cm precision.

Smart Structures Solutions A Spin-Off company founded by the university   research group of Aerospace Structures and Systems, led by Prof. Paolo Gaudenzi of the Mechanical and Aerospace Department of "Sapienza" University of Rome, and by the STAER Sistemi s.r.l. company, leader in the automation and control field.
SpaceEXE An Innovative Start-up company, specialized in the realization of high technological value solutions. The skills and technology they use they are from research, electronics and satellite applications and consist of the creation of HW devices, including firmware development, based on satellite navigation and telecommunications solutions.

Space Products and Innovation UG (SPiN) A company whose goal is to spin in technology and concepts from outside the aerospace industry.  Currenty, the team is focusing on a multi-purpose adapter that applies the plug and play concept to satellite manufacturing and sub-system integration.

I.MODI Uses DInSAR data to examine structural stability, performing an assessment on the level of damage suffered and evaluating its future evolution. It is an added-value service that integrates EO observation technologies, ground based data and ICT to create visualized data.

World From Space Provide insights from satellite data and services. Supporting evidence-based decision-making in urban planning, smart cities and smart agriculture. They are based on open satellite data and AI.

  • 2019 Living Planet Symposium - 13th - 17th May 2019 (Milan, Italy)  
    • This symposium focuses on how Earth Observation contributes to science and society, and how disruptive technologies and actors are changing the traditional Earth Observation landscape, which is also creating new opportunities for public and private sector interactions.
  • ASpace Academy / EBAN Annual Congress 2019  - 3rd - 4th June 2019 (Helsinki, Finland)
    • SpaceUp Space Academy - networking new space entrepreneurs with potential partners in finance, business, clusters, science parks, plunging start-ups into a genuinely European space ecosystem.
    • The EBAN Annual Congress is one of Europe’s largest and most international Business Angel events held annually by EBAN in cooperation with its best members and partners.
  • 9th Edition of ESA's Business Application Annual Conference - 3rd - 5th  June 2019 (Toulouse, France)
    • Agencies, industry, users, experts, entrepreneurs and investors will come together to encourage the development of cooperation. 
    • Thematic sessions will be focusing on diverse relevant topics such as smart finance, smart technologies and smart mobility between others. 
  • Arctic15 - 5th - 6th June 2019 (Helsinki, Finland)
    • Matchmaking start-up event in the Baltics with a focus on making deals and quality networking
  • New Space Economy International Expo - 10th - 12th December 2019 (Rome, Italy) 
    • This Expo will include in-depth interviews, forums and conferences, organized by the world's leading experts in the sector and will feature a large exhibition area.
  • Space Academy / Space TechExpo Europe - 19th - 21st November 2019 (Bremen, Germany)
    • The second SpaceUp Space Academy will take place back-to-back with Aviaspace’s Space Tech Expo.
    • This three-day trade fair will showcase the latest from technical designers, sub-system suppliers, manufacturers and components through the systems integrators for civil, military and commercial space.
