[June 11, 2-4pm] EA PH Mental Health Charity Ideas Research Brownbag Session

What are the top four mental health charity ideas found in the Philippines and in other low-income countries?

Over the past few years, the demand for mental health services has been overwhelming but remains largely unmet due to the limited number of mental health professionals and services, especially in developing countries such as the Philippines.

The need for alternative solutions to respond to this demand launched EA Philippines’ Mental Health Charity Ideas Research Project, with the support of Charity Entrepreneurship.

On June 11, from 2:00-4:00 PM, our team of researchers will share their insights on conducting a Charity Entrepreneurship research project, what they learned so far, and the top four mental health charity ideas they think are the best for countries like the Philippines based on their research.

EA UP Diliman

EA UPD proudly congratulates their first batch of the Padayon Career Planning Program! 🌄

Last March 2022, 13 pioneers and 4 facilitators braved to navigate the mysterious terrain of career planning. During the 6-week meetups, they have thought about how their views on life and work meet, identified their cause areas, and laid out their long-term and short-term paths.

They have finally reached the summit and have a better view of their next destination in their journey to a fulfilling and impactful career. ❤💚

The Padayon Career Planning Program is designed for college students who are introduced to Effective Altruism in exploring what causes to work on and/or career paths to pursue. It is based on the Career Planning courses of 80,000 Hours.

EA UPD would also like to acknowledge EA Philippines and EA Blue for providing the materials and resources that made this first batch successful!

Member Spotlight: Giana Mae Nuncio

Giana joined EA Blue back in 2019. It was EA Philippines’ first year as an org but her last year of college. One thing that also drew her to EA was when she read Brian Tan’s article in the school newspaper and grew curious about “doing good with evidence.” As someone with a scientific mindset, data and evidence in itself was already enticing. After she graduated, she joined EA PH’s Introductory Fellowship and the rest is history.

What kept her interested in EA was really the engagement of the community members and the cause areas. Thanks to Brian, she was able to  facilitate  EA Cambridge’s Alternative Proteins Fundamentals Programme in 2021 and 2022 and helped people all over the world understand more about alternative proteins.

Giana was one of the organizers of EA Philippines’ Effective Animal Advocacy Fellowship last year. She also enjoys co-working with EA members on Gathertown, a virtual meeting platform, that makes her productive and motivated in her EA-aligned work.

She said that she’s excited about how EA PH has been growing exponentially since it started out and was showing absolutely no signs of stopping. She looks forward to the ongoing and new projects of EA PH and AEP. Particularly, she’s keen to meet new people in the university introductory fellowships and share ideas with EA PH members. With all these, she thinks the future looks bright.
