Welcome to the first in a series of weekly updates presented by the Skaneateles Lake Association's Executive Director Frank Moses.  The series will be showcasing various projects, programs, and initiatives the Skaneateles Lake Association is involved with as part of our mission in protecting Skaneateles Lake and its watershed.

In this issue you will find a welcome video message from the Executive Director and a tribute celebrating the legacy of "The Lake Professor" - Dr. Robert G. Werner with an opportunity to help continue the work Bob had pioneered and support further research and education on Skaneateles Lake.

Special thanks to Bob's son-in-law Andy Robinson who produced the "Lake Professor" tribute video and to SLA President Paul Torrisi and City of Syracuse Watershed Quality Coordinator Rich Abbott for their on camera contributions.

Please enjoy this tribute to Bob as we continue to celebrate his life and dedication to Skaneateles Lake and our community.
In order to be able to continue all that Bob did surveying the lake, responding to community member concerns about lake conditions and assisting with the many research efforts related to Harmful Algal Blooms, the Board of Directors of the Skaneateles Lake Association has undertaken a complete refurbishing of a pontoon boat with all the necessary equipment for the survey and research efforts.

Additionally, the boat will be set up to be used as a floating classroom for education programs about the lake, its water, its condition and its protection for children and adults in the watershed community.  We know that Bob would be pleased to know that all of this will be happening.

Most appropriately, this boat will be named the Robert G Werner Research & Education Boat.  A number of community members have already contributed to this boat to help provide the funds needed.

If you would like to help celebrate the legacy Bob has left with a memorial donation in his honor, you can mail a check to the Skaneateles Lake Association, P. O. Box 862, Skaneateles, NY 13152 and note “research boat” on the memo line.  You can also donate online at under the “Membership/Support” tab /make an in memory/honor gift.

Bob will be missed, but his spirit and love for the lake lives on through you and many of us working together to protect the beautiful gem we call Skaneateles Lake.

Supporting the quality of life and drinking water Skaneateles Lake provides to the local community, City of Syracuse, and much of Central New York is a great gift to future generations. Please consider making a gift to SLA today by visiting:

Thank you on behalf of our leadership and members!
