SLA YOUTH EDUCATION GROUP SELECTS BOOKS FOR "LIBRARIES LOVE LAKES" EFFORT

SLA has been working with the Skaneateles Library to ensure books are available that inspire care for and share the joy of of our waters with youth. For the remainder of the month of September books will be on display and will be available to check out beyond then as well. Thank you to Deb Hole, Deb Tifft, and Molly Phillips for reading through the books in advance and helping select them. The Skaneateles Library is located at 49 E. Genesee Street in Skaneateles, NY. BOOKS ON DISPLAY AT THE SKANEATELES LIBRARY
Fresh Air, Clean Water - Our Right to a Healthy Environment written by Megan Clendenan and illustrated by Julie McLaughlin - explores the connections between our environment and our health, and why the right to live in a healthy environment should be protected as a human right. The book features profiles of kids around the world who are taking action and important environmental rights court cases. Hear the powerful stories of those fighting for change.  Ages 9-12 
All the Water in the World written by George Ella Lyon and illustrated by Katherine Tillotson - a poetic celebration of water with stunning illustrations that embrace the value of water to life and introduces the natural gift of the water cycle.    Ages 5-8 
Hey, Water written and illustrated by Antoinette Portis - Noted as a wonderful introduction to water for budding young scientists. Explore all the wonders of water in its different forms on a "hide-and-seek" adventure with a young girl.  Ages 4-8 
All Night Near the Water written and illustrated by Jim Arnosky - After hatching from their eggs, twelve ducklings join their mother on a trip to the lake where they will spend their first night, but the ducklings cannot sleep because of all the amazing things that surround them. A beautiful story with the wonders of water and wildlife.  Ages 5-6 
Clean Water and Our Future written by Kathy Furgang - Readers will examine the global water crisis. They will learn how the water crisis evolved and about its impact on people, the environment, and the future of our planet. Through studying emerging efforts to solve this important issue and observing real-life examples of young activists, readers will be inspired to become the environmental advocates that Earth needs to ensure a healthy future for all.  Ages 8-11 
Good Night Lake written by Adam Gamble and illustrated by Harvey Stevenson - Explore a day in the life of a lake waking to the morning activities, bustling through the afternoon, and settling into the night. A wonderful board book for young ones at bedtime or any time of the day.   Ages newborn-4 
Over and Under the Pond written by Kate Messner and illustrated by Christopher Silas Neal -  Readers will discover the plants and animals that make up the rich, interconnected ecosystem of a mountain pond. Over the pond, the water is a mirror, reflecting the sky. But under the pond is a hidden world of minnows darting, beavers diving, tadpoles growing. These and many other secrets are waiting to be discovered…over and under the pond.  Ages 5-8 
Pond Circle written by Betsy Franco and illustrated by Stefano Vitale - Young readers will be inspired to journey into their own backyards and discover the wonder of the living, breathing world around them.  Join the adventures with a young girl as she explore the wonders of pond life on summer's night.   Ages 4-8 
Rocket Says Clean Up!  written by Nathan Bryon and illustrated by Dapa Adeola - Readers will experience a young activist's enthusiasm that brings everyone together when he discovers on of his favorite beaches is being overrun with trash.  A great book to inspire care for the environment, dream big and tackle problems head-onAges 3-7 
Sadiq and the Clean Water Crew written by Siman Nuurali and illustrated by Christos Skaltsas - Readers will join Sadiq and his classmates on a nature field trip when they discover a polluted pond. Join Sadiq and the Clean Water Crew as they travel to different bodies of water to help care for the environment.    Ages 7-9 
The Water Princess written by Susan Verde and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds - Inspired by the childhood of African–born model Georgie Badiel, acclaimed author Susan Verde and award-winning author/illustrator Peter H. Reynolds have come together to tell this moving story. As a child in Burkina Faso, Georgie and the other girls in her village had to walk for miles each day to collect water. This vibrant, engaging picture book sheds light on this struggle that continues all over the world today, instilling hope for a future when all children will have access to clean drinking water.  Ages 4-8 
Water, Water Everywhere by Jordan D. Brown - readers get to explore water on Earth and in space as the adventure with Jet and his friends taking on many exciting activities with water and ice.   Ages 5-7
