Contact lens disposal
Over the last few years, researchers have reported on micro-plastic pollution in the environment. One potential source is contact lenses that are flushed down a sink or toilet. Another major source is microbeads in personal care products. (Microbeads were banned for some products in 2015) Eventually these small pieces of plastic make it to water bodies where fish and birds mistake the micro-plastic as food. To find out more, check out the article "Contact Lenses are Causing Environmental Pollution” from the ACS News Service and an article and video on micro-plastics from NOAA.
