Your Impact: Nine Months After the Grant

RRF awarded a rental assistance grant in December 2020 to Giovanni, a resident in Las Vegas. He immediately sent us a letter thanking us for helping him avoid eviction and becoming homeless.

In February, Giovanni reported that he had started his own catering business while continuing to search for work. In August, he wrote back informing us that his business has grown, he’s hired some help, is catering parties of 100+ and received his first celebrity client! This could never have happened without our donors and supporters. We hope you’re as impressed as we are!

“Everything is great! I’m constantly getting catering orders and I even had to hire people! I’m so happy, and staying on top of paying my rent on time. Thank you for encouraging me not to give up and to keep pushing no matter what.” - G.J.

Success Story

Here's one of the most creative ‘Thank You’s we’ve ever received. Tom and Missi wrote, filmed a video, and even made this giant check to show their gratitude for helping them stay in their home.

“Thank you again very, very much. It truly means the world to us.
We really appreciate it more than you can imagine.”

Without national eviction protection, applying for rental assistance is key
Millions of struggling residents are no longer protected from eviction since The Supreme Court overturned the CDC’s federal Eviction Moratorium. California’s moratorium is slated to end on September 30th. Now it’s even more pressing to get rental assistance out to those who desperately need it.

Congress has allocated more than $45 billion in rental assistance to address the crisis hitting tenants and landlords, but the money has been painfully slow to reach families. 7 months after those funds were approved, 16 states have spent less than 5% of their share.

Advocates say renters shouldn’t give up on getting rental assistance, as just applying can help you stay in your home longer. Here’s what CNBC says renters need to know about accessing the relief.

Being persuasive may be easier than you think. As it turns out, the hesitation people often feel when they go to ask something from others is mirrored by people's feeling of unease when saying 'no'.
