Zen Meditation
In this group we practice basic mindfulness, learning to reside in the present moment and experience it fully. An ancient practice that originated in Asia and is now being widely used in the West, mindfulness is not an effort to escape the place where we are, nor the pursuit of special, exotic states of consciousness. Instead, it is the cultivation of openness, acceptance and equanimity, enabling us to become more at peace with our lives. Parts of our experience that we have suppressed or pushed away are allowed back into our awareness. This process of self-reconciliation enhances our capacity to handle stress and awakens renewed zest for life. Instead of divorcing the “spiritual” and “emotional” dimensions of our lives, we allow a time for personal sharing of our inner experiences, thus creating a small, supportive community. Zen Meditation meets weekly on Wednesday mornings for instruction and meditation.
