Dear Fellow Parishioners,
Glory to Jesus Christ!
The third part of the Pastoral Council’s plan, based on parish mission statement, is Christian fellowship. Acts Christian fellowship allow us to grow as a parish family as we relax or work together. The plan includes activities that take place weekly, monthly, or once or twice a year.
To encourage an atmosphere of welcoming, there will be greeters in church before and after Liturgy each Sunday. The weekly coffee social after Sunday Liturgy also fosters community and helps us to grow closer to one another.
We will celebrate birthdays and anniversaries in a variety of ways. On the third Sunday of each month, Father will give a blessing to all those born or married in that month. We encourage you to record your birthday and anniversary in the notebook in the gym/hall, so that you will receive a birthday card each year. And on the first Sunday in February, we will celebrate all those who have an anniversary that is any multiple of five years with a cake and potluck dinner.
We have special annual events, including the Parish Otpust in the pavilion with food, games and the GCU raffle that takes place in September. In November, we have the Fall Family Festival. Finally, we greet St. Nicholas in December.
Any parishioner with a special interest or idea is welcome to initiate a small group outing or activity. For example, John Budnik organized an outing to a Lake County Captains baseball game last year.
There are also virtual opportunities for staying connected to Holy Resurrection Parish. You can watch the Liturgy posted on YouTube or follow the parish Facebook page.
Fellowship occurs when we work together, as well as when we celebrate together. We can help to clean the church on the third Saturday of each month, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., following the Akathist prayed for priests by the Myrrh Bearing Women. In the spring and fall, we can come together to clean up the church grounds. Before Christmas, we plan to clean and decorate the church, to the background of Christmas carols and cookies.
Act of fellowship bring us closer to each other and to God. As Christ tells us: “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
Yours in Christ,
Ann Seabright
