Jane Ward: Tennis Captain
They are the unsung heroes at the club - the people who do a great job in supporting weekend tennis by taking on the role of Duty Captain for an afternoon and overseeing the tennis for that day. Thank you so much for all that you do - your work is really appreciated.

Call for Additional Talent: We'd love to have more volunteers in the Duty Captain Pool to both spread the work and contribute to the club. Younger members would be very welcome - this is your opportunity to be more active within CTC. Interested? Please chat to Jane Ward, Club Captain or email:

Thanks to the current Duty Captains

(Lt to Rt): Cheryl Hoskin, Jane Ward, Liz Peterson,
Pam Morley, Suzanne Lemmey, Ken Gotfried,
Leeann Lamotte & Carmel Wright

Missing in Action: Vic Bruce

Relinquishing Courts: The Management Committee has requested that during a peak period of demand for courts, when members have indicated they're waiting for a court it would be polite to relinquish a court after one hour of singles play and after 1.5 hours of doubles.
Receiving a Serve: If your opponent serves a first-serve fault, please don't hit a return back unless the call was so close that you have no option. It's distracting to the server and often results in a ball having to then be removed from the court.

Calling the Score When Serving: It is the server’s responsibility to call out the score - loudly and clearly enough for the opponent to hear it! It helps in minimising score disagreements.
From Tennis Approach:

Summer Pennants: Junior members interested in playing Summer Pennants need to submit their registration form to by Friday 11 September. Please email if you have not received the form and are interested or have any questions.

Winter Pennants: Our 14/U Boys Division 3 team played their final against Rockingham on Sunday. Unfortunately they lost on a count back of games! An awesome effort boys.

Redevelopment of the iconic Wearne Cottesloe is now underway with the bulk of the excavation of the site completed in late August and the ground level slab being poured in September. The redevelopment will result in world class ocean-side accommodation for seniors and includes an exclusive independent and serviced living community called Waterfront Cottesloe, and a new residential care facility called Marine Views Cottesloe.

The wider community will also benefit from a restaurant / cafe, art studios and gallery, community meeting amenities and a medical centre. Stage One includes the Marine Views residential care facility overlooking heritage gardens and the ocean, plus the first 20 Waterfront Cottesloe residences - all bar two have been committed.

Expressions of interest for the final stage of development are now open. Interested parties should contact Paula Jones, Waterfront Cottesloe Village Manager:

Jack Harrison: Bar Manager

The club has decided to upgrade the quality of the wines served from the bar whilst maintaining the cost at $5.00 per glass. Paying a bit more for both reds and whites but keeping the $5.00 price will mean less profit for the club, but we hope will please members. We also have some 'top shelf' reds (e.g. Pepperjack), which will only be available by the bottle for $25.00

In 2000 I saw Federer at the Hopman Cup and I told my mate that he would be an awesome player. That same evening I saw Roger at the Universal Bar in Northbridge and told my friend about him. He said "go and get a photo", but I didn’t want to disturb Roger, so my friend walked up to him and said “my mate’s a big tennis fan and would you mind getting a photo?” Roger was very obliging and lovely, and it's a good memory.
Don't Forget: If you have an interesting tennis photo or story, please email it to:

Grapefruit, oranges, lemons, herbs and other produce at our club. Who's responsible - members of course - taking the time to pick their home-grown produce and bring it to the club to share with other members. Thank you so much to all those who have contributed.
Phil and Frances are happy back home in Auckland. They are close to family and enjoying playing bridge, tennis and helping with grandchildren. However they miss us all at CTC and send their regards.
Frances always loved nursing. She is working part-time in the very important role of Covid-19 testing following the outbreak of the cluster in Auckland. The photo show Frances kitted out in her PPE.
