Peter O'Dea (POD), CTC Groundsman:

Due to unprecedented demand for the limited number of grass courts on Thursday afternoons, the courts will be available for play from 2:30pm until the new summer season commences in October. Please Note: Groups starting play at 2.30pm should finish their matches at 4.30pm to allow other players to get on the courts.

  • Please do not play on any of the grass courts until the dew has dried in the morning, usually by 9.30am, as the dew damages the grass.
  • If a net is down, please leave it down and play on a court that has the net set up. The nets are down on courts that need rest.
  • You may put up a net on a resting court only if there are no other grass courts available that have a net set up.
  • Please use the courts furthest from the clubhouse first.
  • Please move to another court if requested by the grounds staff - this is to ensure even wear and tear on courts.

On the days when there's been rain, check the CTC website to see if the courts are open or closed: - a message in yellow on the home page will state if the grass courts are closed. The decision is usually made between 12.00pm - 1.00pm, and is based on the weather and the state of the grass at that time. You may have to check the website more than once.

Whether you've been a CTC member for ever (it seems) or have just joined, or you are older in years or a young adult, it would be great to have an across-the-board range of members attend the AGM - so please spread the word. It's the perfect forum to find out what the club has achieved, its plans for the future, and an opportunity for you to ask questions and have a say in the running of the club to which you belong.
  • Any member wishing to bring forward specific business at the AGM is to submit a 'Notice of Motion' in writing to the Secretary by the end of the day of Friday 3 September - Please provide a sufficient description, plus attachments, to ensure there is a full understanding of the matter.
  • All Management Committee positions are open for nominations (see below).
The Committee is always open to fresh talent, young blood and new ideas, so why not consider nominating to join the Management Committee of your club. It doesn't matter if you're only a pennant player or a parent of one of the many playing juniors - CTC is an all-rounder club and your input would be valued. We're keen to welcome members from the young adult workforce, so how about it?

The Committee comprises 10 voluntary roles, with a proposal for a new permanent position of a 'League (Pennant) Director' role to be made at the AGM.

* President / * Vice-President / * Secretary / * Finance Director / * Club Captain
* Director, House and Grounds / * Social Director / *Junior Director
* Mid-Week Director / * Members Director / * League Director

A description of the responsibilities of each position can be found in Clause 3.2 of the Club By-Laws found on the CTC website:

Nominations close at 5.00pm Sunday 19 September. Please feel free to chat with me if being part of the club's management team is of potential interest to you.

CTC: Sunday 3 October - Sunday 10 October

Anne Williams, CTC President:

Tennis Australia has announced a modified event - the WA Junior Grass Court Performance Classic - will take the place of the planned National Junior Grass Court Championships 2021, due to COVID restrictions.

The event will be made up of predominantly WA junior players, but it is hoped that players from South Australia, and possibly Tasmania,, will also be able to participate. Tennis Australia has indicated that the event will be under strict protocols in accordance with direction from the West Australian Health Authorities, and players will not travel from interstate unless they are permitted by the WA Police, and have complied with any isolation requirements.

We can look forward to seeing some of the best young players in WA and other states where possible, competing on our courts during the school holidays. To achieve success in hosting this event, we will need you our volunteers, to come to the fore just as you all did two years ago. Your club is you - and we need you.

Please contact Anthea McGrath, the Event Volunteer Coordinator, initially via email: to let her know of your availability and the type of duties where you'd be willing to offer a helping hand.

This is yet another opportunity to show the strength and professionalism of our club and we hope all members will pitch in to make this event a great success. Thanks.

Despite rules and signage in place at Cottesloe Tennis Club in relation to the management of dogs, the rules are often flouted. The CTC policy is:
  • Dogs on the club grounds must be kept on a leash at all times, either tied to a solid fixture or under the direct control of a responsible adult. The only exception to this is for a service dog.
  • At no time are dogs allowed in the children's playground or on the tennis courts, either grass or hard courts.
  • Club officials retain the right to request the removal of a dog at any time.
  • Remember, CTC is a tennis club, not an exercise area for dogs!
We'd appreciate it if everyone could do their bit to see that this is enforced. Thanks.
