All members received a preliminary notice on 20 August announcing the club's 2019 Annual General Meeting - please refer to this for specific information.
  • The Agenda will be emailed to all voting members by 11 September.
  • Nominations are being sought for all Management Committee positions. If you'd like to nominate yourself or another person for a Committee position, please email Paul Oen at by 5.00 pm Sunday 22 September.

We need as many club members as possible to pitch in to get the clubhouse and grounds 'spick n span' for the upcoming National Junior Grass Court Championships, Opening Day, and then into the tennis season.

There are lots of tasks to be undertaken - benches, net posts and bumper boards need a fresh coat of paint, windows are to be cleaned, gardens and lawn edges require attention, the grounds need a clean up, TLC could be directed to jobs in the clubhouse, and rearranging of furniture may be needed for the junior championships.

A message from the Treasurer, Richard Atkins
Members will soon receive their Membership Fee Invoice for the coming season. Payment is due by 1 OCTOBER 2019

Fees not paid by 31 October will result in Membership Privileges lapsing as per the club's Constitution.

The Club President has advised that for several reasons the date for the Club Opening Day has been changed to Sunday 13 October. Details are as follows:
2.00pm:     Tennis commences
3.30pm:     Afternoon Tea - please bring a plate
3.45pm:     Official opening of the season
4.15pm:     Tennis resumes
Friends and visitors are encouraged to join us for the afternoon.

Message from Ian Hutton, Club President:
The 'National Junior Grass Court Championships, the pinnacle event of the Australian junior tournament calendar, is being held at Cottesloe Tennis Club from 5 - 13 October, with the best 128 junior players in Australia in the 12/u and 14/u age groups qualified to attend.

A number of volunteers, led by our Director of House and Grounds, Karen Meredith, have already put in a lot of work to prepare the club for the tournament. The club house with newly polished floor boards, and the grounds, are looking fantastic. However I hope members will still join in the Busy Bee on 29 September to add the finishing touches that are still needed.

The activities expected during early October are as follows:
  • Prior to Saturday 5th October: Some equipment and court furniture will be pre-positioned
  • Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th: Bump-in by Tennis Australia
  • Sunday 6th: 15 grass courts reserved for practise by juniors competitors
  • Sunday 6th pm: Player briefing and tournament draw by Tennis Australia, followed by a barbecue for players, families and officials
  • Monday 7th - Friday 11th: Tournament matches on Bays 1, 2 & 3
  • Tuesday 8th & Wednesday 9th: No organised social tennis
  • Saturday 12th:  Tournament finals - Bays 1, 2 & 3, then trophy presentations
  • Sunday 13th am: Bump-out by Tennis Australia
  • Sunday 13th pm: Cottesloe Tennis Club Opening Day
During the tournament the club will run a canteen service from 9.00am - 4.00pm, Monday 7th - Saturday 12th for players and others, and the bar will be open each afternoon from approximately 4.00pm. An all-morning breakfast will also be on offer on Saturday 12th.

Members are encouraged to come and watch some of the great play put on by the juniors. Ash Barty was a previous winner of this event - perhaps we will see another great Australian talent come to the fore during these championships?

Our club, as host for the event, will provide a range of services to support the tournament - a daily canteen, other meals, and a number of court and house services. We'd like this to be a tournament to be remembered - and to achieve this we need the help of members, both men and women, even for a few hours on whatever day(s) suit you. Please contact:
Volunteer Coordinator, Anthea McGrath:

Canteen Service and /or Providing Light Food:

Report provided by Libby Mussared

The winter season has now come to an end, and both our Men's and Women's Division One teams made it to the semi-finals! The men lost a close tie to Mt Lawley, and Peppermint Grove were too strong for our ladies. Congratulations to all players who played throughout the season.
Report provided by Georgia Culley

Winter Pennant Wrap Up: Congratulations to our two girl's teams that made the grand final of their pennant divisions. The 'Girl's 12/u Division 2' and 'Girl's 16/u Division 3' teams both played away finals against the number 1 team in their division, both losing to very strong teams. Well done on a great season girls!

(L to R): Verity Khan, Maddie & Georgia Gilchrist holding team member,
Greta Terzieva (absent - Lucia Italiano)

Girl's 16/u Division 3
(L to R): Monika Vidovic, Sophia Italiano,
Emma Barrett & Sophia Lee (absent - Abbie Quartermaine)

Boy's 16/u Division 5
(L to R): Kareem Supardi, Lachie Watters, Will Hawkins and Miles Wylinko
Well done boys on making finals, going down to a very strong Mt Lawley team in the semi-final.

Tweed Heads Grade 2 ITF: David Culley recently travelled with Lexie Weir and Jessie Culley to the ITF Grade 2 Tournament in Tweed Heads NSW.

It was great for David, Lexie and Jessie to catch up with Glenn Lehman. Glenn came along to watch both girls play their matches and was a good opportunity for Glenn to see how far the girls had come with their tennis, given he was their first coach at Cottesloe Tennis Club! Glenn is enjoying life on the east coast, however he says he misses the Cottesloe members and Pod’s grass courts.

Please Note: The spelling, punctuation and grammar in the copy below appears exactly as written in the newspaper.
The proposed tennis club at Cottesloe is now an accomplished fact, thanks principally to the generosity of Mr. J. C. G. Foulkes who has kindly volunteered to purchase a suitable block of land on which two asphalt courts can be immediately laid down. Numerous other gentlemen in Cottesloe, Peppermint Grove and Cottesloe Beach have promised financial assistance, add we may shortly expect to see play in full swing, as a most energetic committee of ladies and gentlemen has been appointed to make definite arrangements re choosing suitable land adjacent to Cottesloe rail way station.
A large number of members are already enrolled ,and everything points to a very successful inauguration of the "Cottesloe Tennis Club." The committee appointed consists of Mesdames Rockliffe and Cyril Walker: Misses Keane McArdell and Smith, and Messrs. W. N. Moselev. R. Barker. A. Nairn R..Withers. and K. Bolton, with Mr. H. C. Adams as secretary, and G. P. Marrie as treasurer.

Our thanks go to Bonnie Laing, our Sunday Sets Operator, as she leaves for more hours of work in the hospitality industry.
