A Message from Ian Hutton, Club President:
Tennis Australia will be running the 12 & Under and 14 & Under 'National Junior Grass Court Championships' at Cottesloe Tennis Club during the period 5 - 13 October. This is a major event with the best 128 junior players in Australia qualified to attend. Ash Barty is a previous winner of this tournament.

The schedule of events is as follows:
Bump-In:        Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 October
Match Play:    Monday 7 - Saturday 12 October inclusive
Bump-Out:     Sunday 13 October

Cottesloe Tennis Club, as host for the event, has agreed to provide a number of services to support the event. We will run a daily canteen and provide either a sausage sizzle or BBQ meals at lunch time. We will also need to provide a number of court and house services, for example:
  • moving player and umpire chairs etc. to allow mowing and line marking
  • replacing damaged nets with new ones as required
  • putting out and refilling court-side eskies from an ice trailer on the grounds
  • periodically emptying smaller rubbish bins in/around the clubhouse into larger wheelie bins
If you're able to offer a little of your time during this week, please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Anthea McGrath: Phone - 0419 721 757 or 9384 6295, or via email - and let her know your available days and times to assist in one of three areas:
  • Canteen
  • BBQ
  • General Duties
Our Bar Manager, Jack Harrison, has separately arranged a bar roster for the event.

These championships are the pinnacle event of the Australian junior tournament calendar, and an opportunity for club members to contribute to creating a great event, and to see some of Australia's best kids in action.

FRIDAY 6 SEPTEMBER 10.00am - 1.00pm
This is an open invitation for members and friends to attend a fun fashion parade/champagne lunch event that raises funds for 'Young Women's Tennis Development'. Great raffle prizes will also be on offer.
Cost: $40 including champagne lunch
Bookings: Pam Morley -

Jane Ward, Club Captain:
Remember: All members who are not playing social tennis during the scheduled social tennis times on the weekend or midweek, on arrival must check at the Captain’s Office to be allocated a grass court - which is subject to availability.
Protocols to be Observed:
  • When there is a need to retrieve balls on, behind or near an adjoining court, etiquette requires that all players wait until the end of the adjoining players' rally, and/or ensure that an adjoining court server is not interrupted between their 1st and 2nd serves.
  • Please do not return an obvious service fault.
Provided by Katrina Chisholm, Mid-Week Pennant Co-ordinator:

Despite some indifferent weather in the latter half of the season and a couple of complete wash-outs, the winter pennant season has been very successful for Cottesloe Tennis Club with eight of our mid-week pennant teams making it through to final rounds.
  • Our Thursday Night Women’s Doubles (Division 1) team has had an outstanding season, going through the qualifying rounds undefeated. A home semi-final next Thursday 1 August awaits. Please stay after the Thursday evening barbecue to lend your support as there is a real possibility of a grand-final at home the following week - 8 August.
  • All other teams will be playing away from home - any support will be welcome.
  • Fixtures can be found on the Club website at:

2019/2020 Summer Season League Formats: Tennis West has released the formats for the summer season, including some new competitions which may be of interest to club members. Summer Season Pennant Registration: The summer season runs for 14 weeks commencing in late October and will conclude at the end of March with a six week break through December / January. If you have any interest in playing competitive tennis over the summer season please advise the Pennant Co-ordinators:

You do not need a full team to register your interest. We may be able to assist with team compositions and help our members, particularly those new to the club, to find the appropriate level of competition for their skill. Nominations for pennant teams close in mid-September, so please start planning NOW. We look forward to hearing from you!

Tennis enthusiasts can now easily access the 10 hard courts at the Cottesloe Tennis Club, thanks to improved court hire accessibility resulting from the recent installation of the new on-line booking system ‘Book-a-Court’. Bookings are via the club’s website - payment is taken in exchange for a booking pin which opens the gates and turns on the lights. The system is available to both members and non-members.

The total cost of the project, including webpage upgrades, new club signage and the Book-a-Court installation, was approximately $18,000:
  • $6,000 National Court Rebate grant from Tennis Australia
  • $5000 ‘Stronger Communities’ Federal grant through the Electorate of Curtin
  • Balance raised by the Cottesloe Tennis Club
Celia Hammond MP, Member for Curtin, is delighted the club secured funding through the Federal Government’s 'Stronger Communities' Program which is all about 'improving local community participation and contributing to vibrant and viable communities.'

Members, if you have not received your email invitation to access the Book-A-Court system, or would like more information, please contact:

From the Club President, Ian Hutton:

In the past month our volunteers have been very hard at work. Derry Walker and his band trimmed the Broome Street hedge right back so it will be tidy for the Junior Championships and will be easier to maintain. A great effort team.

Ian Meredith spent hours removing the old ceiling panels and cleaning the whole of the coach's old office, ready for planned uses. At the same time, Derry has been busy cleaning and tidying the back room of the old shed, ready for similar uses.
Well done guys.
