Times are tough, but so are you!

By now, all of us have heard about COVID-19. Some of you may be extremely informed on the situation. Others may be doing everything in their power to avoid the topic. Both are completely understandable. There is a lot of fear and anxiety that can come along with mass outbreaks. A lot of this has to do with the uncertainty of it all. Not knowing what tomorrow will bring.

While we cannot change the future, we can help prepare you for it, and do our best to help you stay as calm and healthy as possible.

We encourage you to read this edition of Cam's Kids Connects in it's entirety, as we outline various strategies for staying healthy not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well!

Advice from the experts

Managing Fear:
1. Remember that this WILL pass
2. Avoid self-isolation if you are not sick
3. Follow the news in moderation (this includes social media)
4. Find or practice coping strategies 
5. Remember you are not alone
Managing Health:
6. Wash your hands - frequently 
7. Avoid touching face and mouth 
8. Prioritize sleep - get at least seven hours a night
9. Limit sugar consumption
10. Take your vitamins and supplements (esp. Vitamin C)

Non-toxic disinfectant you can make from home!

We are thrilled that the world is becoming more educated on proper hygiene practices. Instead of grabbing those "ready to use" products that are filled with toxins, below is a non-toxic, disinfectant you can make from the comfort (and safety) of your home!

Natural Disinfectant: 
3 TBSP isopropyl alcohol (ie. rubbing alcohol)
10 drops of lavender essential oil (or your favourite essential oil)
10 drops of tea tree oil
Mix in spray bottle and fill with water (distilled)

STOP Technique

When things feel like they are becoming too much, remember the STOP technique:
  • Step away from the situation
  • Take a few moments to BREATHE (inhale for 4 seconds, hold, exhale for 4 seconds and repeat)
  • Observe what's going on not only around you but also internally
  • Proceed mindfully, engaging your rational mind and implementing any anxiety techniques you know are best for you
