The Hygiene PTO would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to two of our past PTO Presidents, Kate Gaddis and Teri Motheral! They are graduating 5th grade parent who have given their time leading our past PTO Boards and in many other ways over the years!

Q:  What volunteer roles have you had during your years at Hygiene Elementary?

Kate Gaddis:  I have been volunteering at Hygiene since 2010, and I have helped in lots of different ways: I served on the PTO Board for several years, as Vice President and President, organized the Jogathon for 3 years, helped with the Science Fair, and cooked meals for parent/teacher conferences.  I also have volunteered in my children's classrooms along the way, sometimes weekly by stuffing folders, sometimes organizing Valentine's Day or Halloween parties, sometimes reading with kids in the hall.  I have attended field trips as a chaperone, put makeup on kids for the Shakespeare Festival, and picked up food at PetSmart for the class salamander.   I've tried to fill in where needed and be a help were I could.

Teri Motheral:  My volunteer career at Hygiene started out very slowly in 2008 by providing snacks and such for parties or doing small tasks at home on the weekend.  When my older son was in 4 & 5th grade, I volunteered an hour or two per month in the classroom.  I truly enjoyed being involved in the classroom, meeting my son's classmates, and getting to know his teacher's.  When my younger son entered kindergarten I began volunteering weekly and continued to do until he was in 3rd grade.   I met many other wonderful parent volunteers and teachers who suggested I serve on the PTO which I did for 2 years - as the president, co-chair of Hawk Air and performing other duties as needed.  Serving on the PTO gave me the opportunity to join and then become the parent liaison for a district parent organization called Leadership St. Vrain, a program designed to provide parents and other community members the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of our district's mission, operations and strategic priorities.

Q:  Why do you volunteer?

Kate Gaddis:  I started volunteering so that I could get a glimpse into the school lives of my kids and get to know their new friends.  As time progressed, it was equally important to me to help the Hygiene community as a whole and all of the wonderful teachers.  My family has been blessed to be a part of this wonderful community, and my hope is that I have been able to, at least in part, give back.

Teri Motheral:
Volunteering was personally fulfilling and I loved getting to know school, the staff and the students. This year, my oldest son is graduating from Longmont High School while my youngest is graduating from Hygiene.  I treasure the time I spent with my boys during their Hygiene years.
