UPCOMING EVENTS

Final Assembly - June 21st

You are warmly invited to join the Final Assembly in the Assembly Hall to celebrate with us the end of the school year:

At 10:15-11:00: Final Assembly for Secondary pupils
At 11:15-12:00: Final Assembly for Nursery and Primary pupils

DID YOU KNOW THAT?

  • Our little learners from the Nursery section had an exciting spring, exploring the world around them. A bug show at the school gave the children a chance to see creepy-crawlies up close and realize they are actually not so creepy. All groups learned a bit about gardening at the school or in the neighbourhood garden, and found out about taking care of pets. The children extended their learning by visiting a farm to see how bread is made and to learn even more about taking care of animals.
  • Dazzling Dolphins, Curious Caterpillars and Les Chics Chouettes visited the Natural History Museum to find out about the wildlife in Estonia, while the Friendly Foxes went to explore the Estonian Children's Literature Centre. The Nursery pupils are excited to end the year with a trip to the zoo and to find answers to their many questions about animals that live there.
  • Les Chics Chouettes, and P1 and 2 French had a chance to taste a delicious, traditional, home made couscous made by class parents.
  • On June 17th, P1 got to visit Ranna Rantso.
  • On June 14th, P2A, P2B, and P1 and 2 French will enjoy a visit to the Botanical Garden.
  • May 23-24th, P3EN had a fabulous, adventure packed, overnight trip to the Ice Age Center and the Elistvere Zoo in Tartu County.
  • P5 enjoyed a dinner at Põhjala brewery with their parents, carers, Miss Hilppa and Miss Lydia to celebrate their graduation from Primary to Secondary. Balloons were blown up, drinks were served, fries eaten, certificates handed out and a special present was delivered to Miss Lydia to thank her for all her hard work from P5B, as she leaves us at the end of the term for new pastures. Also P5A thanked their teachers, Tom, Miss Hilppa, Miss Caroline and Miss Triinu with a nice present  for their support, and hard work throughout the entire school year.
  • S2 have a lot of exciting activities ahead: an integrated science technology camp 8 - 12th June at Roosi guesthouse in Nõva; a trip to Helsinki visiting Heureka and Linnanmaki 17 - 18th June; and the mums had a night out in Telliskivi back in May which started with food at Karbes and ended with G&Ts in Ülo…
  • S3 are going on a class trip to Stockholm 17 - 18 June. Watch out ‘party boat’...!
  • S5 and S7 will be knuckling down to some hard revision at the time of press to prepare for their final exams from 10 - 17 June. S7 were cheered off by the whole school as they finished classes during the last week of May. We wish them all the luck!

“The marvels of daily life are so exciting; no movie director can arrange the unexpected that you find in the street”, said Robert Doisneau (1912-1994), a French photographer famous for his poetic, gently humorous and timeless moments taken on streets around Paris and its suburban areas. Doisneau’s ability to find and capture subtle personal emotions and simple yet meaningful episodes of quotidian Parisian life has been admired by millions. No wonder he is considered as the pioneer of the modern documentary and street photography.

As a result of the collaboration between the French Institute and the Documentary Photo Centre, the public is given the opportunity to see the retrospective by the legendary French photographer. The 80 photographs in display give an overview of the photographer’s life and the absolute best of his career: everyday life of the post-war Paris, celebrities, carefree childhood and unique moments in streets – all what makes Doisneau special and recognised in the world. The humour, love, nostalgia, tenderness and friendly wit of his photographs touches souls certainly now and hopefully in the future.

ROBERT DOISNEAU “HISTOIRES PARISIENNES”
17.05.2019 - 18.08.2019

JAANIPÄEV or Midsummers’ Eve

Jaanipäev is one of the most important celebration days in Estonia, apart from Christmas.
Country wide Midsummer festivities begin on the eve of
June 23rd and conclude on June 24th.

It is the tradition to build big bonfires.
Estonians barely sleep during Jaanipäev and enjoy the glow of the bonfire with family and friends.
If you are in Tallinn don’t miss out the festivities at the Open Air Museum.
