Today's Coffee Cup - Tomorrow's Road

The take-away coffee cup that you had your coffee in this morning, could be in the road you drive on tomorrow under a revolutionary Australian first recycling project for sustainable road surfaces.

Penrith City Council has partnered with State Asphalt Services and Closed Loop for the resurfacing of 390 metres of Jamison Road at South Penrith, and 350 metres of Swallow Drive, Erskine Park where the PAK-PAVE™ road surface includes a mixture containing almost 136,000 coffee cups.

Council is committed to creating a sustainable City for its residents and is always looking for new ways to be more sustainable. Known for its innovative waste programs, and this is another opportunity to take an everyday single-use item and reuse it in a way that has far-reaching benefits for the community.

In addition to the cups the asphalt will include over 1.2 million glass bottles – a mix that has proven successful in the resurfacing of 8.4 kms of pavement throughout the Penrith LGA.

E-waste Drop Off Day

Take your e-waste to the right place at the E-waste Drop-off Day’s new location, The Kingsway Playing Fields in Werrington, on Saturday, 18 March, 9am and 3:30pm. Friendly staff will unpack your boot or trailer and will dispose of your e-waste correctly and responsibly.

It’s important that we take our e-waste to the right place as e-waste is growing at three times the rate of other waste. E-waste takes up large and unnecessary space when sent to landfill, and some components of these items are toxic to the environment and our wildlife.

We’ll be accepting electronic items such as hard drives, computers, grooming devices, cables, juicers and mixers, printers, stereos and more
