Response to our idea to send out a fortnightly newsletter to our matched and active befrienders was positive - so here goes - our first one!

We invite all of you to a closed FaceBook group where we post some content on events, opportunities etc but we're conscious that not all of you are on FaceBook and that our posts are easily lost in the clutter of social media messaging.  So this is intended to supplement not replace FaceBook. Every two weeks we'll post half a dozen links to refugee opportunities and news and half a dozen ideas of things to do in London (mostly for free).

Refugee news and opportunities

Free pairs of tickets available to HostNation for Mashrou' Leila concert taking place at the Roundhouse on Thursday 7th March thanks to MARSM. These Lebanese musicians are considered one of the region's most famous indie bands, and have crafted some of the most melancholic ballads and raucous anthems in contemporary alternative Arabic music.  More info on event here and watch this inspiring music video.  If you and your friend would like tickets or your friend would like one or two, please let us know by Monday 4th March.

Circle is a new refugee initiative through Groundwork with funding to assist 200 refugees over two years to integrate into UK society and is run by one of our HostNation befrienders: Danielle Johnson.  If your friend has refugee status and is interested in being part of a new community, or receiving employment advice or having English lessons, then check out the activities and put them in touch.

Excellent Guide to claiming asylum and against deportation and detention in the UK produced for Women by Legal Action for Women but useful for anyone appealing.  Read it here . A French version is also available from their website.
