High School Open House Info

For our 8th Graders and their Families

Greetings 8th Grade Families!


This newsletter will attempt to share all the information we have about upcoming high school tours and other ways students can learn more about Seattle area high schools. Please share this with anyone who might find this information useful!

NOTE: February 1 - February 28 are the dates for Open Enrollment if your student is interested in attending a school other than their attendance area school.

Admissions Fair and SPS Open House

To help families prepare to enroll new students, learn more about option schools, and talk with staff about Seattle Public Schools (SPS) programs and services, we are hosting an informational event on Saturday, Jan. 28! 

Join us to ask questions about the upcoming school year, learn more about Open Enrollment for School Choice, and the many outstanding programs and services available for SPS students.

Upcoming High School Open Houses and Info Nights
Lincoln High School: Wednesday, January 25th from 6:30 - 8 pm (TOMORROW)
Ingraham High School: Wednesday, January 25th starting at 7 pm (TOMORROW)
Roosevelt High School: Thursday, January 26th from 7 - 9 pm
Garfield High School: Wednesday, February 1st from 6 - 8 pm
The Center School: Thursday, February 9th from 6 - 8 pm
Ballard High School: Wednesday, February 15th from 6 - 8 pm

  Middle College High School

  • Basic Information:
    • MCHS is a small, cohort-based community of students. Our program starts with 9th and 10th graders taking courses at one of our sites located at North Seattle College and Seattle University. Rigorous courses in 9th and 10th grade prepare students to attend full-time, enhanced Running Start program in 11th and 12th grade.
    • What we offer:
      • Small class sizes: approximately 1 teacher: 20 students
      • Social justice/ethnic studies embedded into the program
  • Middle College Open House
    • Seattle University – Thursday, Feb 9th at 6pm
    • North Seattle College – Thursday, Feb 2nd at 6pm

Shadowing Options
Is your student interested in a school but can't make their Open House? Is your student on the fence and would like more information before making a decision? Is your student just curious about what high school is like? Certain SPS High Schools offering SHADOWING to 8th graders or prospective transfer students. Please call or email individual schools with questions.

Ingraham: Not doing Shadowing this year

Ballard: Ballard High School allows shadowing for prospective students during certain dates. Prospective students will need to find a current Ballard student to host their visit and a Shadowing Permission Form must be completed and the current Ballard HS student should have the completed paperwork turned into the Main Office at least 3 days ahead of the proposed visit.

Roosevelt: Roosevelt High School is offering shadowing opportunities for current 8th graders from January 23rd – 27th and January 30th – February 1st. Each 8th grader will be paired with a Roosevelt student leader and will attend the first three periods of the day. Spots are limited so sign up now! To sign up, call the main office at 206-252-4810. We look forward to hosting you!

Center School: The Center School offers Shadowing all day on Wednesdays. Please email the Principal, Dr. Casey, at blcasey@seattleschools.org for more information or to sign up.

Are you wondering if Aviation is a good fit for you?
Check out our upcoming information nights.

The information we will be going over:

●The application process, what to expect, when to apply.
●Meet students, staff, and parents of current students.
●Learn about RAHS’s curriculum and how it prepares students for college, careers,
and learning in the context of aviation and aerospace.
●Learn about extra-curricular activities such as Science Olympiad, Speech and
Debate, Robotics, and Green Energy Team, to name just a few.
