Field Season Planning Underway

Field season begins in March, and our calendar is filling up with new sites! We're pleased to announce that we've received permission to deploy sound recorders on state and regional parks throughout Sonoma County. Access to these parks will provide us with hundreds of new sample points located in diverse habitat types. We continue to work on gaining access to other publicly and privately owned lands as well.

If you own or manage property in Sonoma County and are interested in deploying sound recorders on your land, contact the Project Coordinator Rose Snyder for details on how to participate! Rural and urban areas welcome.

With all these new sites to survey, we need your help!
We are currently seeking volunteers and interns to participate in field work from March - June. No minimum time commitment! (Internship details below.)

Volunteer Spotlight
We'd like to give a big thanks to volunteer Wendy Schackwitz for her valuable contributions to S2L! Wendy is a local birder who has dedicated over 360 hours to the S2L project. Aside from working in the field, she has also spent many hours on the computer manually identifying bird calls, creating models to automatically identify bird species presence or absence, and training fellow volunteers to work in our cloud-based bio-acoustics analysis platform (Arbimon II). Thank you, Wendy! We are deeply appreciative of your ongoing support.
Partner Organization Spotlight
We'd also like to express our gratitude for Sonoma Land Trust's support of S2L last year! During the 2018 field season, several Sonoma Land Trust (SLT) land stewards volunteered their time to deploy sound recorders on various SLT properties throughout Sonoma County, contributing to our countywide soundscape data collection. We look forward to working more with SLT in the coming year!
