6 August 2021

Hi Friend,

SwanFest preparations are well under way but there is still plenty on offer in the week ahead:
  • Table ordering via an App
  • Cycle Hub
  • Book Club
  • Quiz Night

Running from Friday 13th until Sunday 15th August, we are open from 10am until 11pm each of the three days of SwanFest. All are welcome and as a bonus, there is no entrance charge. We will have an excellent range of activities for all ages including, but not limited to:
  • From 10-5pm each day, family fun including face painting, games, balloon modelling and crafts.
  • For adults, there is a beer festival with a wide range of excellent ales, lagers and ciders. There will also be wine and alcohol free options too.
  • Music each evening with different bands each night including the return of our favourites, Mark and Sherridan on Sunday evening.
  • And our famous BBQ each day with the usual range of burgers, sausages, veggie and kids options plus a 'special' each day.

You now have the option to order and pay for your drinks from your table. These can either be collected at the bar or delivered to your table, you choose. This is provided by a third party specialist company called ROUND. You will need to download and subscribe to their service, more details can be found here.

With one eye on the Tokyo Velodrome the WCH team will be back at The Swan at noon on Sat 7 Aug providing advice about all things bike! They even have coffee and cake on offer. Unfortunately there will not be a guided ride this week. For more details about WCH please visit their website or take a look here.

Book lovers are most welcome at The Swan monthly book club which returns this week - online and face to face at the pub. This Mon 9 Aug at 8pm they will be discussing their last shared book, ‘The Murmur of Bees’ by Sofia Sergovia. The club members only share four books per year, the rest of the time enjoying talking about their current or recently enjoyed books. It’s a great way to learn of new authors and genres that you may not have tried before. They are a friendly group and would love to meet like-minded readaholics!

You can't keep a good team down but you can try to out quiz them! The next opportunity to join the teams in the winners enclosure is Wed 11 Aug at 7:30 when Martin Payne will again be asking all the right questions. You just need the right answers. Book your table by emailing

Three delicious options from Dublicious this week. Meat - Beer Can Chicken; Vegetarian - Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms; Fish - Smokey paprika hake fillet. Full menu details, and how to order, are available here. Order by noon on Wed for collection from the BBQ team at The Swan 6-6:30 on Fri 13 Aug.

The volunteers have continued to turn their hand to many varied tasks this week, too many to do justice to here. Tony can be seen preparing a new support beam for The Kitchen ensuring that the first fix electricity and water pipes remain uninterrupted. At the AGM it was reported that a further 8 beams needed to be reinforced in the ceiling. Thanks to our Warriors 3 have been completed and 4 more are in progress. Meanwhile Thomas, amongst other tasks this week, has been displaying his carpentry skills as part of the SwanFest preparations.

No need to wait for the SwanFest, come and enjoy fun, friends and fine beer this week as well..

Warm regards,

The Friends of The Swan
