Hi Friend,

A week is a long time in the life of The Swan:
  • Kitchen preparation marches on
  • Cycle Hub keeps rolling on
  • Testing Games and a Quiz for all
Even more reasons this week to come and see for yourself.

An extraordinary team effort this week deserves an early mention. The Weekday Warriors have been joined by GR6 staff and Micky, our General Manager. Collectively they have installed the ceiling boards in The Kitchen, begun the replacement of the wall and door into the dry-store room and even found time to take a pick axe to The Courtyard flooring. Always a busy week but some highly visible progress has been made this week. Sincere thanks to all those involved. It is impossible to do justice in this newsletter to all the work and workers. Please take a look at our Renovation Diary to see the full story and remember how far we have come.

This time last year we celebrated the completion of The Coach House refurbishment. A major achievement with sincere thanks to everyone involved in ensuring that this remarkable facility was available for use by both GR6 and The Swan. Take a look here for the full story.

Members of Windsor Cycle Hub will be running a Bike Kitchen at The Swan from 11:00 this Saturday. They will check your bike for you and carry out minor repairs. Please note that there is not a guided ride this week. Next week there will be a ride leader training session. Contact or go to our WCH page for more information.

Simon Russell, our local games inventor, is hosting an evening of exciting board games. Some you will be familiar with, some will be totally new. He will help setting games up and getting you going. Also with any questions you may have during the game. Feedback is also welcomed. Why not come down, meet some new people and try a game over a pint? Everybody welcome, all ages, no need to book a place.

Tuesday brings another opportunity to join the Cribbage Crew!. All levels of experience, especially beginners, are equally welcome. This is an informal group meeting at The Swan at 7pm with a view to playing on a regular basis. You don't need to know the game, the experienced players will be explaining all the rules and helping novices through the whole process.

Wednesday sees a return of the ever popular Swan Quiz under the watchful eye of quiz-master Martin Payne. Come on down and challenge existing champions, Hettie's Heroes. The fun starts at 7:30. To avoid disappointment please book a table by emailing your details to

A Dublicious treat this week with a choice of Rosemary & Juniper Duck or Roasted Celeriac with a fish option of Roasted Salmon Fillet. Full menu details, and how to order, can be found here. Orders will be available for collection at The Swan 6-6:30 on Fri 10 Sep. Please note that due to other commitments there will be no Dublicious food option on Fri 17 Sep.

The RBWM Unlock Summer vaccine campaign, in partnership with the NHS, is encouraging 18-35 year olds to have their Covid jabs to safely enjoy all their activities at this time of year. Borough statistics show under 35's are still hesitant in having the vaccine. Posters and beer mats with more information are available in the bar at The Swan.

A wide variety of stalls coupled with favourable weather saw another successful Swan Mini Market. A big thank you to all stall holders and an even bigger thank you to those who provided and harvested the vast quantity of fresh produce. Our next Market Day is scheduled for Sun 26 Sep from 12-3pm.

After two years of trading those members of The Swan Community who generously made a loan to the CIC are now able to reclaim that loan to use against sales over the bar. Notification has been sent out by email to those concerned.  We have been overwhelmed by the number of individuals who have generously returned all or part of their loan for it to be available for the continuing development of The Swan. Thank you so much for your generosity.

With so much on offer you really don't want to miss out. Come and join us!

Warm regards,

The Friends of The Swan
