31 December 2021

Hi Friend,

Mixed emotions for many as we prepare to say farewell to 2021 but the arrival of 2022 is eagerly awaited at The Swan.
  • See the measures in place to keep you safe
  • Ring in 2022 with live music
  • Review the year just ending
  • Get ready for exciting events in the coming week
Read on to look both back across 2021 and forward to 2022.

Covid continues to be a major issue in our area. In order to keep customers and staff as safe as possible we are following government guidelines and ask that you read the measures we have in place before visiting The Swan. All measures are kept under review but current policy for The Swan is available here

Hogmanay or New Year's Eve, it doesn't matter what you call it there is plenty on offer at The Swan. Live music courtesy of Mark and Sherridan from 6pm and the bar will be open until 1am. See out the old and bring in the new in style at The Swan.

A reminder that we will be open this weekend as follows;
  • Fri 31st Noon - 1am;
  • Sat 1st Jan 3 - 8pm;
  • Sun 2nd Jan Noon - 8 pm.
From 3 Jan opening hours will be:
Mon - Wed 3 - 10pm; Thu 1 - 10pm; Fri & Sat Noon - 11pm; Sun Noon - 8pm.

How much of 2021 can you remember? Despite a tough year there has been plenty to celebrate and many happy memories made at The Swan. To refresh your memory take a look at our 2021 Annual Review. You may be surprised to see how much has been achieved. If you look carefully you will certainly see some familiar faces doing some familiar (and even some not so familiar) things. To secure your place in next years review get down and join the fun at The Swan.

It's the time of year when the phrase 'Dry January' replaces 'Festive Spirit' in the vocabulary of some. Both phrases and both persuasions are equally welcome at The Swan . No need to stay at home when alcohol free beers, wine, gin and prosecco will be on offer throughout January.

Mon 3 Jan at 7pm sees the welcome return of an evening of Board Games. Hosted by Simon Russell, a local games inventor. Some of the games will will be familiar while others will be totally new. Simon will be on hand to answer questions and to guide all players. Why not come down, meet some new people and try a game over a pint? Everybody welcome, all ages, no need to book a place.

As the new year starts why not learn a new skill (or improve on existing knowledge)? There is an informal group currently meeting at The Swan with a view to playing cribbage on a regular basis. You don't need to know the rules as the experienced players will be on-hand to help novices through the whole process. The first session for 2022 will be on Tue 4 Jan at 7pm.

Did you get a new bike for Christmas or do you need to simply get back on your bike after enjoying the festivities too much? Either way the return of the Cycle Hub on Sat 8 Jan is what you have been waiting for.
The Bike Kitchen  from 11-Noon will help check your bike before a guided ride leaving from The Swan at about 11:30 and returning approximately one hour later.  For more info, please go to our WCH page.

Coming soon, Wed 12 Jan, Martin Payne will return with some more painful brain teasers. Can you and your team become the first champions in 2022? Book your table by email to

On behalf of everyone associated with The Swan we wish you, and your families, a happy and prosperous, but above all healthy, 2022.

Happy New Year!

Warm regards,
