University Women of Cambria
December Newsletter 2021
“This is my invariable advice to people:
Learn how to cook-try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless and above all HAVE FUN.”
Julia Child
Our November UWC Meeting at Harmony Café certainly met Julia’s last bit of advice. Our presentation from Lynne Martin about her book, Cook Like a Local in France, was both inspirational and FUN. As for the remainder of Julia’s advice, Lynne certainly encouraged us to venture out to new gastronomical adventures. With her anecdotes from the book and descriptions of her gourmet dinners provided to charming guests, Lynne made us all desire to fearlessly try new recipes. It seems her descriptions of European travel also has inspired the wanderlust for many of our members.
Our thanks to 1st Vice President Program Committee member, Corrine Zinn, for her facilitation of this truly entertaining event!
Holiday Celebration
Our Monday, December 6, event is the extremely important fundraiser program for this year. We will be meeting at San Simeon Beach Bar and Grill for the yearly gathering that generates a large portion of our money for scholarships. You are encouraged to donate monetarily and of course, participate in the on-line auction.
Help us make this year a record-breaking fundraiser as Coast Union and Leffingwell have a large graduating class and we want to help fund higher education opportunities for as many qualifying candidates as possible. (See attached flyer for details).
It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Honorary Member, Sharon Finchamp has passed away. She contributed to UWC by donating her artwork, “Peaceful Haven in the Santa Lucias”, for our 2008-2009 directory cover which gave it noteworthy distinction.
She was well known around town due to her unique large hat which she wore to many events, and she was often seen painting with the Wednesday Irregulars.
UWC and Cambria has lost a talented and altruistic member of our community.
