A Letter from
He is Risen! What a gift to be able to say these words in person this Easter. I have such clear memories of Holy Week last year and the contrast to this year is striking. We were a month into quarantine, and I streamed my church’s service alone from my apartment in Alumni. I tried to keep reminding myself that my feelings in the midst of all of the unknowns of the upcoming weeks and months were far more like what the disciples were experiencing that first Triduum than my “normal” worship experience, but I must admit I did not want perspective.
One year later, I am able to see what The Lord has done in this past year. It has been disorienting and overwhelming at times, but I have a renewed sense of hope and perspective for what Jesus is doing in me and in our midst. I have been drawn to John 20 and Mary Magdalene this week, in reflecting on what it meant for her to encounter the Risen Lord, hear him call her by name, and to be sent by Him. I cannot imagine all of the emotions she was feeling, but what we do know is that she responded and went to the disciples and told them “I have seen the Lord!”
My prayer is that we may respond, like Mary Magdalene, and share with those around us how we have seen the Lord at work in the midst of this past year.
