Valentine's Day falls on Sunday this year. I remember the first time I signed and gave out those little boxed valentines to my 2nd grade class. Most were just "grab a card and sign" as I went down the list of names given to us by our teacher. But, there was one name - I think I told her she had cooties, but the truth is I kind of liked her. I took my time to pick her card.
Relationships make life livable, fun and exciting at any age. God reconized this early on. Gensis 2:18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a companion who will help." Of course "man" here means humanity -all of us. Out of this observation God gives us gender and that difference has sparked interst and propelled us to do more that we would have done on our own. As the French say, "vive la dif·fé·rence!
But, there are far more than just romantic relationships - friendships, parents, grandparents, brothers & sisters, aunts & uncles, friends and so many more. The deeper the relationship, the deeper the hole when the relationship is strained or ends. Divorce, death, and relationship disasters are some of the darkest holes we'll ever have to climb out of. Let's talk about that this weekend as we look at the parable of the two debtors. It's a nugget wrapped in a beautiful moment when love lifted a very broken woman to a place of honor and beauty. Isn't that what Valentine's Day is really about?
Blessings and joy,
The Office will be closed Monday February 15th in observations of President's Day.

WHY DO WE PRAY? Knowing that when and where we go for the reason that Jesus sends us assures us of always being in His presence. THIS is why we pray. "But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." (Matthew 6:6)
WHY DO WE GIVE? Because God is working to shape our heart to be just like his! Our time, talents, treasures and things make our Campus, Congregation and Community a better and brighter place to live, give and grow is the way God is calling you and me to live out each day! THIS…is why we give!

Person of the Week: Bruce Baker -He works with other team members and staff members to ensure our church is fulfilling our mission of Bringing People to Jesus to Know Him and Make Him Known.
From Bruce - I was born in New Jersey, grew up in Rhode Island and Seattle, and after graduating from the University of Washington in 1968, moved to Florida to work for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center in 1968, retiring in 2002. In 1975, I met and married my wife Becky. In 1981, we became members of IRC. We found this church to be characterized by a welcoming spirit and a dynamic commitment to reach people beyond its walls. We both became active in a variety of activities and ministries, including United Methodist Women for Becky and choir for me and more recently jointly with the Care Ministry's Prayer Team. Sadly, Becky passed away this past December, but I am carrying on, buoyed by the loving fellowship of church family. This year, I am returning to leadership of the Church Council, a position I held several years ago.
CHURCH COUNCIL TEAM INCLUDES: Trustee Chair: Glen Koelling, Finance Chair: Tom Beever, SPR Chair: Chris Perdue, UMW Chair: DJ Olson, MOPS Leaders: Victoria Ausanka & Gretchen Russick, The Kids Place Director: Heather Quidort, Magi Sizemore, Dale Hirchert, Dollie Boggs, Dinah Bryant, Rob Vieira, Jaime McCormick and all ministry staff.
