Crafting Community
I love nothing better than spending time knitting in my favorite corner chair with a cup of coffee and the company of my four-legged buddies, but I also enjoy community with other knitters and crocheters in my small town. It is truly a bright spot in my life.

Are you thinking of starting your own knitting or craft group? It’s easy. Promise.

Bigger cities offer so many opportunities to meet at local yarn stores and in coffee shops. But what if you live in a small town that rolls up the sidewalks at 8 pm as I do?

You could meet at a local library, cafe, or church. I began by asking a local business owner if we could meet once a month in her newly opened store. I knew it would be a great fit for a knitting group and her business. I decided to call it a Stitch & Hoot because we meet at The Owl Wine Bar & Home Goods Store.

Read this article about the benefits of joining a group and ideas for finding members if you plan on starting one.

I knew that the community I craved could thrive in such a welcoming space. Five years and seven months later this group of mostly women, still meets once a month to knit, drink wine or Topo Chico, and catch up with each other’s lives, or rather to Stich & Hoot.

If you ever find yourself near Elgin, Texas on a 3rd Thursday, come by The Owl at 7 pm. We’d love to have you.

My She Creates Union pals
Speaking of Community
Last weekend I was lucky enough to spend the entire weekend with these wonderful women and a whole lot of my friends and neighbors at Elgin Art Studio Tour.

Since Emma and I co-founded She Creates Union we have participated in one large festival, an art studio tour, and a couple of pop-up shops. We meet once a month and talk about things we've been thinking about doing, things we've done, and generally cheer each other on.

Bake This Pie! You'll be Berry Glad You Did
Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of Summer and the height of berry season in central Texas and most other places. One of my favorite recipes for blueberries is Blueberry Almond Crumble Pie.

Find the recipe here.

A Gluten-Free Topping for Berries & Yogurt
This may become your new favorite breakfast for the warmer months ahead. If you are gluten-free, this is for you! I created this Date + Pepita Crumble for my yogurt and fresh berries breakfast. This one has a short cut using coconut date rolls and roasted pepitas (pumpkin seeds) from the produce department. Just chop both ingredients with a knife, pastry blender, or food processor if you want it less chunky. Add a pinch of salt if using unsalted roasted pepitas. I like to add ground cardamom or cinnamon. You could use any nut, but I particularly like the crunchiness of the pepitas with the chewy dates and creamy yogurt.

Pro Tip: Chop the rolls up a bit, then heap the pepitas on top of the pile to chop it all up more. The salty seeds will keep the knife from sticking so much.

I use these date rolls The coconut ones are extra yummy!

Watching & Knitting
I realize this may be a bold statement and this show is not for everyone, but I swear Fleabag is the best show I've seen all year.

Seriously my only regret about Season 2 of Fleabag is that I’ve already watched it. Twice. Now what?

Two years ago I was telling anyone who’d listen about Fleabag’s first season and prattling on about the show, badgers, and Fall in this postBelieve me, when I tell you, you'll know within the first 3 minutes of the very first episode if this show is your cup of tea.

As good as Season 1 was, Season 2 may be among my top 5 television series ever! Like Breaking Bad, Six Feet Under, Sopranos, Mad Men good. Oh, and do I need to mention Fleabag’s creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge also created Killing Eve?

She is also been called upon to liven up the script for James Bond 25 at the request of Daniel Craig. Now that should be interesting. Read more in this article.

This woman is killing it. Seriously.

Watch both seasons of Fleabag on Amazon Prime

And if chic, spoiled, and funny female assassins are your thing… watch Killing Eve on BBC America

While I'm crushing on PWB, listen to this episode of Fresh Air
