February News Update 2022

AOCS LEADS TEAM

Following last month's introduction, we thought you'd like to get to know us a bit more, as we are certainly hoping to get to know and serve you well!  Here we are clockwise from top left: Joanne Searle, Jerry BrowningClare Beckett-McInroyNick BoltonJackie ArnoldChristina GatesJenny Brown, Felicia LauwBenita Stafford-Smith and Lorenza Clifford. We hope you will begin to connect with us when you have ideas or questions, when you need something or want to enhance your membership by volunteering some talent, energy, and time!
In the next few issues, we'll shine a spotlight so you get to know our different roles, two at a time:

Jenny Brown, is one of our three statutory directors and also has oversight in the leadership team of finance and governance.  This means she leads on budgets and annual accounts and how we make sure we operate in a really open and transparent way when we make decisions as an organisation. Jenny’s role is generally internally focussed supporting the leadership team.

Your membership payment enquiries are dealt with swiftly and separately by membership secretary, Sam Fremantle of our Membership team. She has been working with us for some years and performs a huge amount of work each month, pulling things together and getting the important things done in the background.

The Membership Lead is Christina Gates: Christina deals with enquiries about appropriate level of membership, sense-checking our application process and continually working to be inclusive. She sees this role very much as linked to all the other Leads Team Roles, with essential two-way relationships. "Our members are of course crucial to our organisation, and I want to work with other Leads to further develop our membership offer and take it to on to the next phase, in line with our emerging ambitions as an association". She envisages that growing our membership is not just about numbers: It has to be of a high quality and consider the different needs of our range of members.

AoCS is sponsoring the International Coaching Supervision Conference:
Learning in a Global Community

We love that our member, Jo Birch, and the organiser team are making it accessible in more languages and including more people each year. The money from our sponsorship goes into the translation fund. We have two more free tickets remaining, and we would love to encourage AoCS members to come forward, claim a ticket and participate in this amazing conference.

AOCS Regional Coordinators Creative Collaboration
CALLING ALL OUR REGIONAL COORDINATORS (Formerly known as AMBASSADORS)

Following a meeting of the Regional Coordinators in January this year, facilitated by Joanne Searle, the South African regional coordinator, and now Global regional co-ordinator, Joanne has offered to facilitate a second session on 25th March 2022 @ 15h00 – 16h30 (GMT).

We would like to encourage as many of you as possible to attend. The focus of this session will build on the previous discussions, offering the volunteer coordinators a further opportunity to clarify their roles with AoCS and to share their thoughts and experiences on how they are ‘promoting, engaging and developing’ supervision in their geographies. We look forward to connecting again and ‘joining hands’ in this capacity. Contact Joanne to register your attendance.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION REFLECTIVE CIRCLE
Join our next circle on 18th March 2022 @ UK Noon / 8pm SGT

In our last reflective circle, we reflected on how in supervision one can fail to listen to the coach's voice; focusing on the technical aspects and attend less to the underlying needs
  • What can we do to increase the psychological safety in our supervision space to really listen to the smaller voice as well as the assumptions in the room?
  • What actual steps of mindfulness can one put in place to allow space for different voices to be present?
Next reflective circle on D&I in our Supervision profession: 18th March 2022 at UK Noon / 8pm SGT.

COACHING THE GREAT AWAKENING:
A festival of creative coaching tools for liminal spaces

3rd – 8th March 2022
Once again, supporting Coaching at Work’s Climate Coaching Day, we invite members of Climate Coaching Alliance (free to join) to become involved in a series of conversations – over a week rather than one day this year! The pandemic has reset a lot of lives globally and continues with newer challenges as we enter 2022 too. Coaching & Supervision, in all its forms, is being recognised as an essential element in the transformational process. The recent global climatic changes too have surprised many of us. Everyone is feeling uncertain.

In such times, it is important to accept the liminal, transitional, in-between, spaces wholeheartedly. There is no time better than now to speak about how we might move forward with confidence and orientate ourselves when in transition. What other ways of ‘knowing’ may exist that are beyond the purely rational and analytical ways of thinking and finding silver bullet solutions? These are often more creative processes, including art, poetry, dance, and protocols about how to be together in respectful conversation.  What answers have you been experimenting with?   What can you share?   What are you curious about and would like to host a conversation about – drawing together our collective wisdom?  We invite you to join us 3rd–8th March 2022 where there will be daily events between 8am-12pm and 6pm-10pm UTC/GMT.

The next 2022 Co-Supervision Space session with Michelle Lucas and Yvette Elcock will be on 4th March 2022 from 11.00-13.00 GMT/UK time. This session will concentrate on Gestalt approach: Working with BlocksGive an Object a Voice and Supervision and Sensing. Come and take the opportunity to practice existing or new approaches to coaching supervision in a great learning community. You will be able to book an individual or multiple sessions depending on your planning preference. Click here for free tickets for members and our free membership offer to those attending three sessions at the non-member rate.

Here are the 2022 dates for your schedules all of which will be held at 11.00-13.00 GMT/UK unless stated below:

Our new lead for Research and Partnership, Dr Clare Beckett-McInroy, has a new publication to share with you which is co-authored with Sameera Ali Baba.

Creative Reflective Practice is a fabulous resource for any professional as it adds to the body of knowledge on reflective practice through original contributions from experts such as David Clutterbuck, Erik de Haan, Nancy Kline, Barry Oshry, Jonathan Passmore, Marcia Reynolds, John Leary-Joyce and Hetty Einzig. Over forty specialists have shared their experiences on partnering with teams, culture, embodiment, education, philosophy, leadership, metaphorical landscapes, parenting, SUPERvision, existentialism and transpersonal work.

This leads us nicely into the BOOK EXCHANGE

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:
Who loves books and enjoys talking with other professionals
about books?

Would you have a small amount of time (around 3 or 4 hours, 9 months a year) to arrange and facilitate a new Book Exchange (separate from our Book Club which is focussed upon reviewing books). Support will be given.

The Book Exchange would interest all levels of membership, in sharing about the reading you are / should be doing for curiosity, or for study, for updating or for inspiration!  The notion is to work on our community feel and banish isolation, while creating an enjoyable professional network focused on learning and continued professional development. Contact Lorenza if you could volunteer a regular time each month for this and a small amount of time for the relevant arrangements.
We welcome NEW MEMBERS:
